Is the Unichip ECU for the 996TT any good? Is it worth the $$? Thanks.

i wouldn't do it. go with something proven and respected: GIAC, PROTOMOTIVE, UMW, FVD, RUF,

I have never heard any good reports on the unichip. Go with one of the above tuners.

Thanks for the advice...Back to the drawing boards to see what fits the car and the budget. Actually it's for a friend of mine who did buy the system and now wants to sell it. He just wanted me to see what people thought of the product. Thanks again..I told him to go with the GIAC but it's a little pricey, but Im sure you get what you pay for, right?

I have 1 here we tested. They work, but not the easiest. You have to use the Uni Q i think. They dont have a standard Unichip. Alot of companies use the piggyback on their products (TPC, Alta, Vortech, etc). Retail is $2K. I would go with the flash from us instead - http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/i...cturers_id=390

The Unichip has it advantages and disadvantages. Many of which come down to WHO is tuning it. The Q+ version now has onboard drivers that allow the use of triggers to water injection etc. Not found on earlier versions. Plus the new Flux unit (works with Windows Mobile PC and similar PDA's) allows you to toggle through up to five maps at the flick of a switch. An improved version of the Flux (again as an add on to existing Q+ Unichips) allows fine tuning of the mapping. Utilizing an external addl wideband O2, the driver through the Flux can give target AFR and then make a pass. The UniChip will then make adjustments and the driver can then choose to accept or decline. This will be available in Mid-Spring.

The flashes are also great and when tuned local to you can be a great option. But the potential for warranty concerns can be of issue (not so much for older cars) but the UniChip Plug-n-Play can be removed at any time and be gone, vanished without a trace.

Both have there advantages and disadvantages, but you need to to weigh those and determine which are best for you.

Good luck in the decision. No matter what the HP gains are going to be HUGE. Enjoy it!
