Serious Gas Fillup problem with my TT

Lately I've not been able to fill the car all the way up without having gas leak out into the plastic hole. Usually its just a little gas that goes through and I just clean it up. But today when the lever clicked I literally spilled a gallon or 2 of gas through the car.

I pulled the gas handle off immediately and there was gas shooting out of the tank!!!! I had to cap the gas tank or it would just shoot out. What is wrong with my car???

Does this happen at the same gas station? I ask because I had a similar problem with my local Chevron. Went down the road to the 76 and was able to fill the tank without incident. Keep me posted, would be curious to find out.

Cheers,
Scott

This happens at almost every gas station. Once the tank is full and the lever clicks, gas just spills out of the nozzle.

My local Dealer (Rector) said that this is a common problem when the breather tube becomes clogged...he suggested hitting with some compressed air, which works 70% of the time, if that fails then the tube is probably kinked and would need to be replaced...$$$.

Had the same problem about a year ago.

Had many people tell me many things. Nothing worked.

Brought it in to dealership.

Here was the deal.

The reed switch was pulled out of the lock. They partially removed the filler neck and reinstalled the reed switch back into the lock.

It worked !!

No problems since.

Total cost: 310.00

Hope this helps.

Ice

Dave...the turbo has an unusual fuel tank. it has a hump in it and the sensor is in the top part....so the computer estimates the rest of the tank. If you just fill up the lower part of the tank it will not be read by the sensor.

Correct, you have to fill it more then halfway for it to read it.

When I get gas, it fills up and clicks off with no spillage, but if I put any more gas in it spills out all over the ground. However, if I fill it until it clicks, pull out the gas hose and then reinsert it, then put more in, it doesn't spill out. Is this normal, or should I get mine checked as well? It seems to be full when it clicks off, at least the gauge says it is full. However, even when I drive it until the needle is on E I can only get around 14 gallons in the tank, and it should hold 16.6 gallons.

Thats great to know - i thought my sensor was just messed up - its quite irritating but makes sense
