My E55 Story...this is FUNNY!!!

Ok. So I drive down to Crystal Cove to pick up some dinner. I'm just cruising...taking in the sunset. I pull up to an intersection right by UCI (Campus and Culver, I think). Anyway, unbeknownst to me there is an E55 right next to me and we are first at the stoplight. It turns green...i shift into first and then I see this E55 take off. So, I decide to play a little. I'm following (it's rush hour) and going a little fast (but I don't want to cause an accident). He is trying to haul *** and he is cutting off cars. We get onto University and he takes off. It's a windy road...let me tell you...that care handled like SH*T!!!! He almost lost it! No joke. Then he decides to turn off onto a side street at high speed and he runs into the curb as he tries to complete the turn!!!! I almost died laughing!!! I couldn't drive!!!!

Anyway, if you are out there Mr. Gray E55 in Irvine...don't drive like an idiot. You can hurt yourself and more importantly, someone else. Learn how to drive accurately and safely. Have some safe fun. You almost lost it out there today and you probably f'd up your car when you hit that curb. You have a nice car, but when it comes to turns, I'll eat you alive everytime.

Tim, you and I both have E55's. I raced my '04 E55 against a 996TT. From around 60 - 120 I pulled away. I was not happy to have won. At that time I had my '02 TT in my garage. I was frustrated that an 80k sedan outpaced a 120k sports car. The E55 handles like a 4200lb sedan, but straight line (not from a dead stop) the E55 is quicker. I wish it wasn't so.....

As soon as he turned, I heard screeching and them BAM! He hit the curb...maybe one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

I agree..in a straight line it's fast...but on the turns...you gotta be careful!

I'm actually considering the E55 for the wife....it's a great car...

I hope that guys realizes how stupid he was today.

The E55 needs a serious diet to handle. The understeer is scary! But it is a great car with incredible power and comfort. I love everything except the handling.

Yes...the weight factor comes into play...I think the car is great for touring and taking the straight-aways with some power.

yeah, it's 500 lbs heavier than the outgoing model! time for the new m5! i would love to see the track times of an m5 SEDAN against a tt......bet the gap would be GREATLY reduced! ;-) that is going to be one hell of an everyday car!

Is the E55 faster than a stock TT in a straight line? I am not really sure about that. According to R&T the E55 hit 100mph from 0 in 9.8 seconds while it takes the TT X50 8.8 seconds to do that. These were data taken on the same day for the same test 0-100mph-0. The non-X50 should be slightly slower but should still be faster than a E55 IMO.

"But it is a great car with incredible power and comfort. I love everything except the handling" -- that's Mercedes current philosophy.

As someone posted earlier, they're a US company now (Chrysler influence) ... straight line speed is their forte.
