First "REAL" impressions of my UMW tune

So the wife and I spent the day with the Turbo, driving out to Middleburg, Va. for some lunch with my business partner and his wife. This gave me my first real chance to dive the car for more than 15-20 minutes. I almost didn't drive it, because I've "thought" the clutch was slipping. However, other than Wheel spin, It didn't slip all day...

This car is soooo much more civil to drive in lower speeds with it in 6th gear. The car is making more usable power that is much easier to drive and seems to just build speed everywhere. Not sure if I'm using more fuel, but I drove the car 120-ish miles and the computer showed 23mpg.

My setup is the UMW tune, the OLD K16/24 turbos, the X50 intercoolers, Bailey DVs, 5bar FPR, wastegate springs, DGI exhaust.

I can't wait to get this car on the track to see how it runs at places like VIR where I can really stretch its legs.

I'll get real dyno numbers soon enough, but I'm guessing I'm putting 530-540 to the wheels.

It had 510 to the wheels with the previous tune.

Mike, I suspect it is the torque that is much higher, perhaps 80ft lbs more....just a guess. I am not sure we would "feel" 5-8%...

My guess is 550 to 575 crank (and very usable) Porsche Horsepower.

great track set-up!

Hmmm.... my guess is that you meant to use the word "wheel" instead of "crank". I have the 2 ZC, and laid down 540 hp, 580 trq. I shut down a 609 RWHP Cobra on the highway repeatedly and without effort. UMW puts down some serious power, even in their little kits.

I was making 510 Wheel hp with the upsolute with 532#ft. of torque and I have no doubt that based on the "feel" both down low and up high that I've picked up atleast 30WHEEL HP and a BUNCH of torque, but I'm going back to the same dyno used for the previous Upsolute pulls, so I'll get a fair comparions...

There is no comparison to the previous feel!

They were using an AWD Mustang Dyno. The sheets were from the previous owner, and as some might know, he did a number of runs with various exhausts/mods and his best, using the Upsolute software, the K16/24 Hybrids, Billet DVs, X50 intercoolers, and his factory modified exhaust and K&N filter insert netted the 510AWHP/532#ft. of torque.

Everywhere I've read says AWD cars are eating up 18-20% thru drivetrain loss... Is this not the case with the Porsche platform?

Mike
AWD is usually at least 20%. Some very efficient front-drivers dip below 15%, with the normal rear-drive 15%.
With the viscious diff...could be more than 20%.

Good to hear you're happy with the tune...I hear nothing but good things about UMW.

Be good,
TomK
