New here. Question on Stage 4GTR

Currently own an '03 M3, but seriously looking to upgrade to a used 996 TT. Have been looking mostly at '01 for roughly 90k but have a few questions. Is it worth the extra $$ for an '02 X50, or is it easier to increase the HP with aftermarket mods? In addition to the tranny problems and lack of glove box, are there any other drawbacks to the '01 model? Thanx in advance for your help.

If you plan on going to the GTR then do not do the X50. You will be paying for turbos and programming which you will not use. There are some other benefits, intercoolers and such, but the cost difference between the X50 and the add ons is not justifiable. If you plan on leaving the car stock then do the X50. The X50 is good to 600crank HP with a few tweaks. After that the turbos are to be changed. Once again, turbos are cheap in comparison to the X50 cost.

No real draw backs other than the ones your just listed.

So the GTR involves swapping out the turbo units but not the intercoolers? The X50 is about 17k new, and probably an additional 10-12k on a used vehicle. Is the GTR significantly cheaper? Is the HP upgrader comperable? Sorry for not understanding the basics, but I'm used to ZERO mods. being available with the M3.

No, the X50 shouldn´t cost anywhere near the 10-12k extra on a used vehicle. Remember, the X50, despite its power enhancing properties is still only an option and options add very little in terms of resale. 3-4k IMO...

4GTR will take you over 700hp. Not even comparable to X50. I believe the package is a bit over 20k but don't quote me on that. Imagine is offering 15% off right now so hurry!

I currently have an 03 without the X-50 and I upgraded to the stage 4 GT. Take it from me, it cost less than the X-50 and a great deal of more power. "Their is no comparision.

I have somewhere in the 520 - 530 rwhp. Buy without the X-50.
