BMC filter cleaning

Hey guys just wanted to hear from some of you guys on what type of cleaner you are using on your BMC filters. It just arrived today and I'm a little hesitant to use just soap. Should I purchase the cleaner from BMC or will regular soap work? Thanks.

can't you just use the same cleaning supplies used to clean K&N filters? I have this same BMC filter and it seems to have the same makeup as a K&N....am I be wrong?.

OK but if your going to oil it make sure you DO NOT over oil, it will blow CEL and may kill the Mass air.

K&N cleaning kit should work. I've heard lots of guys warn against putting too much oil on the filter after cleaning it, because it can damage your MAF.

Not going to oil it at all. So regular dishwashing detergent or laundry detergent should be just fine to clean it?

Dish, not laundry...you could use the K&N kit, but that is much more $ for dish soap

I have heard to lightlly oil filter before reinstalling. You don't want to over oil but not reoiling may let some finer particles pass through the filter. May not be a big deal but the k&n aerosol oil is very easy to apply evenly and lightly. I don't like the liquid oil in the lotion type container. Sray lightly and let oil wick before reinstalling. I try to lay a paper shop towel on both sides of filter also absorb any extra before reinstalling. Little is better than more but I think some is better than none also. Anyone else?

For a new filter: Quick soak in diluted dish soap solution, rinse, then air dry....no re-oiling. You can see there is still "pink" oil left in the filter, just not as much as new. The filters are typically over-oiled from the factory as they have no idea how long it will be before they are used...and of course the oil will lose its qualities over time.

When I bought my BMC filter about 6 months ago I just installed it the way I received it. Instructions said nothing about washing it before the install, it looked really greasy too! I have put about 5K miles on it so far and no problems or CELL. Now I wonder if I should have washed it, wel it is too late now I guess.

Sounds like it should be fine to do what wross suggests. I too put mine in as was. Ran it over 10,000 miles with no issues. It has been cleaned once since then. I would sugggest cleaning the maf with the proper cleaner. I was surprized that it did smooth out the idle a bit. If done correclty it cant hurt. These cars are amazing if maintained properly.
