First off a GT2 for 85K is going to have some stories. Just remember if those Gen 1 PCCB's are smoked you are looking at $4500 per corner to replace the rotors. You could always change over to steel rotors, but then why pay the premium for a GT2 is that is the case. That is why most cheaper GT2's are all sold AS IS. I highly recommend you spend another 10-15K and get a really good low mile example.

Brembo two piece fronts are easy to get for a GT2, its the two piece rears which are not so easy due to the rear hat. Plus if you spend 7-10K on brakes why not just get a better GT2. Once again, spend a little more for a better car. The GT2 is not a car to buy on a budget. By the finest example that you can. Otherwise stay with a 996TT or 996 GT3 for your price range.

This is what a set of PCCB's look like in rough shape.

Purchasing a GT2 for 85K and putting 30,000 miles on it is silly.

By a 996TT on the cheap, mod the hell out of it and drive it into the ground.

Keep us posted on your search. Most sales data show $85k will be 30k mile GT2 or one that has some bad history. As you say, might get lucky and wait out a seller who was hoping to get 100+K. I am pretty sure last year GT2 sellers advertising for 115-120k ended up getting 105 or still have their cars.

thanks for showing me what smoked pccb's look like..

i will definitely stay away from that..

i just really think it is not smart to get a 2002-03 gt2 for anywhere near 95-100k in about a year from now i cant even get 85k back for it..

i am one of those people who buy cars payed off and drive them for about a year and get rid of them... to me cars are the worst investment for your pocket but one of the best investments to keep you happy if you are a car guy... but taking a nasty hit on resale value is not my gig...

and i know some of you may say that if you buy a 100k car you should not care about resale... well i think that is completely foolish

lol i bought a 996 tt last year for about 56k i don't remember exactly how much it came out to but none the less it was a 02 with 36k miles...

i was inching for a rear wheel drive conversion but never got to do it...

i bought the 996tt for track purposes...

never really liked it because i want that rear wheel drive lsd action

and i will put anywhere to 15k-25k miles on my gt2... i dont buy cars to leave them in the garage i want to get a full experience out of my gt2...

I have the GT3 cup steel rotors on mind, amazing with Pagid yellows!

GT2's for 85k hmm, will be hard to find a clean one that's for sure!

Y65MPH you are so negative, why does every GT2 that is 85K going to have some stories? Why do the brakes have to be smoked? The guy wants to find a good car and he will if he takes his time and does his homework, but I don't think that it is out of the question to find a nice car in between $85K and $95K depending on miles and year model. The GT2's have taken a hit because most people don't like that they don't have the creature comforts of the Turbo.

I would buy a 750 hp set up that my friend has... 16K on it. white no paint. 2001 TT and it has the RWD conversion. Its one of a kind and actually the owner spent $12K on the custom ecu tuning alone.
You will not be disappointed. Its runs low 10s and traps 139 mph . daily driver.
.. but that's just me.

markski

Why would that be a deal breaker? Did you see the car? Maybe it was a perfect match that no one could tell and your only keeping it a year or 2 anyway and if you get a car that claims no paint work and then you find it did have some whats the difference? What if your racing your car and a rock flys up and puts and dent and a chip in the paint? Do you repair it or sell it? I just don't get the paint thing? **** happens and you fix it! Like you said yourself you not buying it FOREVER!
