For how many of you is your Porsche your only vehicle?

Ok after recieveing your PM, here is my take on it:
I drive my car everyday, to work, to the supermarket, to resturants, WHEREVER!! I love it!! This is MY only car, however I can use my families cars anytime which includes a Caddy Escalade (On Dubs ). It really depends on what you do on a daily basis... I do not normally haul big things or go places where my TT is not safe... When I do I have a truck for that... Yes people look at me strange when I am driving my car (esp. now that its loud), but I have leared to just say "F**K IT"...
If you need to know anything else more specific please let me know...
Evan

I myself used to have my P-Car as my daily driver. I find it a hassle to have to trust valets or park my car on the street. It is my baby and if it gets ruined my heart jumps to my damn neck. I would never keep this car as a daily driver, nor would i choose to have a GT2 (the second in command of elite P-Cars) as a daily driver. I usually travel through Northern NJ and New York often. I have no problem driving in NJ but when in NY i do not trust parkign my car on the street and would rather shoot myself than hand over my keys to a valet. You are in LA I am assuming, probably Beverly Hills or something real swanky. I think that there are enough Porsches in that area where your car wouldn't be that much of a hassle to have.
I though that the Range Rover was a company car that you would take people around in and also a car that could haul alot of stuff. I think the GT2 is an impractical car. A porsche is a daily driver sports car but I dont think u can treat it ilke a DD. If you injure the porsche its gonna cost you a hella lot more than if u injure the RR or a POS DD.
Suggest u go with the other cars

Hmm, lets see I can drive the TT or a 76 911 S targa. I have used 911s as a only form of driving for a long time now. Do not be afraid of it. It just makes you want to drive it more. Forget what others think. After a long day from work I look like a stole mine and I sure drive it that way. I own my car for me, screw what the soccer mom thinks or the guy stuck in the minivan. Tint the windows so it is "your "time in the car. I make no apologies for the love I have for these cars nor my desire to drive them. As far as room, I have both boys back there and Roxanne up front. We are taking a 12 hour trip to Parade in two weeks. Room, well I have managed. I get everything I need in it. Many trips, lots of luggage. IN regards to something you won't have to deal with, snow! I get through that as well.

One thing no one mentioned is that the GT2 is the probably the lowest profile supercar you will ever find. Because despite its looks, it still is ridiculously fast. You mentioned being a tad over budget ... will you be able to afford maintenance too? I'm pretty sure this baby will cost more than a RR to keep rollin'.
I'd go for it anyways. Just so you can say in 50 years "ah, back in the days, I only had GT2 for a car, I was crazy!" and your grand0kids will giggle saying "ah! it only had a gas engine? and had wheels? Did it have horses in front too?". LMAO.
Remember you can put a trailer hitch on a TT ... that would be a ccrazy sight. A GT2 towing a little trailer full of stuff ... LMAO!!

Offroad - what profession are you in? I ask because that may factor in to your self-consciousness when you park it at work. At my firm's building, there are tons of nice cars, you can essentially double park, and nobody messes with your car.
I know you're in LA, so Ranges are a dime a dozen, as are nice Porsches. Today alone, I saw 6 TTs, including two TT convertibles, in the span of an hour. Any non-porsche owner wouldn't really tell the difference between the GT2 and TT, so I wouldn't worry about the flashy factor too much.
From a practicality standpoint, again, it depends what you do for a living, whether you have a family, etc. My C4 cab does the trick for me on a daily basis. I might be the only idiot making home depot runs in a porsche, buying flowers, piping ... you name it - but it works. You can always borrow the Range from you pop-in-law when you really need to carry more passengers or haul something around.
So, go for the GT2 if you like the car. Or, you and I can swap leases and I'll drive the GT2 around and worry about drawing the ire of other young professionals.
Or do what I intend to do soon - buy a $20K beater.
By the way, you guys with porsches and e55s ROCK. That's my next tandem. Convincing the wife that she'd like an E55 over a Range when her X5 lease expires next year.

my tt is the only car available to me readily.
my gf has a vw bug which doesn't hold much more.
was thinking about getting a suv to carry my snow and surf boards....
tons of porsches in pasadena, have seen the blue tt, a silver tt, and a yellow tt, countless c2 and boxsters, so i don't think i stand out too much thought i think mine the coolest tt cab in these parts..
as for being youngish, sure it looks like my parents bought me the car but i got it on my own, and who cares what they think anyway? they don't know me, and if they did, they would know how hard i work.
better now than when i'm older!
i make runs to the hardware store, target, the dry cleaners, gelsons, the movies, whatever... no issues whatsoever.
sure i worry when i have to valet at a club or wherever, but ask them to be careful of the wheels, and they usually park it up front.
don't let your car own you.
you get it to enjoy!

I've experienced the "awe" factor when driving my TT. I'm a consultant so taking my car to a client site is always a toss up. I usually park way in the back of the lot by myself so my clients don't see the car. Funny thing is that some clients love it and immediately want to go for a test drive!
I'm fairly young (28) and driving a TT so it does cause a few eyebrows to raise. Bought it myself with my own $$$ so I feel no guilt. It's mine and I love it.
The GT2 as a daily driver is interesting. The other day I was sitting in one and the clutch was really heavy...much heavier than my TT. Could be an issue in LA traffic. Your left leg might end up being much larger than your right due to muscle build up!!!
Having said that, the GT2 is absolutely amazing. If you have the chance to get into it at a reasonable dollar amount, I'd say do it. Do it now while you can still enjoy it!

I alternate between my DiscoveryII and my TT. The two perfect AWD in their own turf. I can't commute in the TT for more than 4 days in a row. Gets claustrophobic and feel inadequate in traffic. Cruising 5 feet above the ground is more relaxing. I can also jump any curb I want in the Disco.

i work at home for the most part so the commute is not an issue.
Thanks for all the advice. It's interesting to see that almost no one owns just the TT. I guess that's to be expected at the price range. I'll probably take it for a while and see if it's really a problem. I can always switch back or sell it if need be.

I obviously would not be able to buy the Elise if this were the case, and as i would already be a bit over budget, would not be able to have any sort of beater. So, it would be just me and the GT2 spending lots of quality time together.

If you don't care about the miles, do the GT2. Most people don't know the difference between it and other Porsches (a friend with a TT thought mine was a GT3), and the public isn't that interested in Porsches. If it were a Lambo, my reply would be different because they just shout "look at me". I don't drive a turbo as a daily driven any longer because of the weather (cleaning it all the time) and the hit that I have taken in the past for having a high mileage car. Otherwise, I would do like Evan...drive it to get groceries.

The GT2 is an 02, it has about 7k miles on it and has 3 years left on a 4 year lease. Of course this will be in Los Angeles. I'm finally done with the east coast for good in august.

Why not take that ?
