I think you would be OK ...

Interesting thread. It took me 22 years to get to the point you are now. In the real world, only the most serious of car buffs know the difference between a 996, 996TT, 996TT_X50, GT2, GT3, GT3RS etc. Also, you will find that the most attention comes from high school aged males that know their cars. In LA, particularly Beverly Hills, a Turbo-looking-thing will not attract that much attention. If you want attention, get a Gallardo or a Ferrari. To give you a point of reference: At restaurants here in La Jolla, my 2002 Turbo gets parked in the back with the Kia’s, while the SL500’s, Gallardo’s, and Ferrari’s, are kept out front. This is OK with me. Unlike the people on the Ferrari board, I don’t like the attention. It is cool for a while, but it gets old.

The GT2 is just about the most discrete rocket I can imagine. I would de-badge it.

My 996TT is my only car. I track it about 6-8 times per year. I have no complaints, but it is a quite uncomfortable on long trips and a GT2 will be a bit worse. This, however, is a different discussion. Also, you won’t be making any winter trips to Mammoth in a GT2. Keep that in mind.

Why not take that ?
that's the plan if you reread my initial post

right now my plan is to keep the S2000 and take the GT2. I already own the S2000 and i love it so i figure i may as well make it work. I will use the S2000 if i need to be low profile and for the majority of my track work. The GT2 i'll take to a couple track events a year...enough to stretch its legs but not enough to really worry about it.

The S2000 has been my only car for the last 2 years so this will actually be a step up in practicality
