How do you pronounce Porsche?
#31
I know the proper way to pronounce it, I just never cared enough to make it a two syllable word. I'm a strong believer in the shortest way is the best way. Who cares in the end, I still have one sitting in my garage regardless of how I say the name. What I find sad is some people don't know how to work on their cars.

I can't agree with the work on the cars though. Granted, most can and want too but with todays technology it's almost impossible to be able to just fix something.

I read an article in Excellence several months ago that mentioned that the Porsche Factory sent a woman over to new Dealers, maybe a dealer meeting, specifically to instruct dealer personnel how to properly pronounce the name "Porsche" Por-sha.
I always think of the name as a beautiful woman's name, ahhhh Por-Sha...

Maybe this is me being a bit of a snob, but oh well.
When I see someone who drives one and pronounces it as one syllable, I automatically get the impression that this person simply bought it as a status symbol.
Kind of like this kid I saw on MTV claiming that he owned a Carrera GT and said something like, "Yeah, this is the big dog sports car... got over 600 horses under the hood," and he put his hand on the trunk. He pronounced it as one syllable, too.

So if I call a car a Chevy or Vette it's wrong? Funny....when I had my M5, this same discussion came up on the M5 board....Beemer or Bimmer......I always called them bEEmers.....but the correct pronunciation is BIMmer....

I think the same.

Pronunciation of "Porsche"
"Porsche", a German proper name, is correctly pronounced PORSH-uh (IPA: /ˈpɔrʃə/) .
Some tend to over-vocalize the e, which results in Por-SCHA (/pɔrˈʃʌ/). Others mistakenly treat the e as silent, a pronunciation rule that applies to most words in English and French, but not in German, producing the monosyllabic porsh (/pɔrʃ/). The most common pronunciation used in the United States is porsh (/pɔrʃ/). The correct pronunciation of "Porsche"

Both of these are correct. Por-sch-a is the actual original 100% German way to say Porsche. But the English language does not allow for the "e" sound to create an "a" sound unless it has a hyphen like some spanish charecters (e'). So the gramatically correct English version is Por-ssh while the original German translation is in fact Por-sch-a. I try and say "PorschA, but I find myself saying it the other way all the time.
