Need some advice/help on CPO warranty!!!

Angry Need some advice/help on CPO warranty!!!

I purchased my first P-car 2-3 weeks ago from Downtown LA Porsche. It is a 2003 996TT X50 PCCB CPO with 35K miles on the car. Last Saturday while having some fun with the Cars & Coffee people, I found that something is leaking in the front passenger side. I pulled over to the side and was coolant on the ground. I called Porsche Roadside Assistant and they toll the car to Newport Beach Porsche.

The service guy from Newport Beach Porsche called me today telling me that it is one of the radiator hose that was broken and it is considered as tear and wear item, which will not be covered under warranty. This will cost $700 with labor to fix. (They are really nice guys, so I trust them and didn't give them a hardtime)

So I called Downtown LA Porsche, where I got my car, and I explained the situation to the sales manager. All he did was, let me transfer you to the service manager who can better help you. After I got the service manager on the phone, not to mention I have to repeat myself with the whole situation, all she gave me was BS (sorry for my language). I was like "shouldn't this be inspected during the CPO certification before you sell the car?" She just respond that this is not something that can easily be found. I was telling her I understand that, but should that be covered and be paid for? How could any buyer expect to spend this much money shortly after a CPO purchase and will take tear and wear item and not covered under warranty as an excuse.

My last resort is Porsche of North America. I called them and filed a complaint on this, they said they will call me back within 48hours with an update. So the question is, how will they usually deal with these cases? Is Downtown LA Porsche BS-ing me?

You are SOL....had the same thing happen with my CPO'd car and ate the cost. It is considered as a "wear item" because of the rubber hose..but in my case the dealership only charged me $400....I'd ask them to explain their hourly rate and how much time they charged off to replacing a radiator hose....exact same one as mine blew...passenger's side. My dealershp's hourly rate is $120/hr. I would have done the work myself, but it blew while on the highway and I had no choice but to flatbed it to the dealership.

The CPO clearly states what is and what is not covered. If the radiator hose is considered wear/tear, there is no recourse.

I'm sorry but you're dead wrong...the CPO is very elusive about what is and isn't covered. I tried to get a list from the dealership after my go-around over the radiator hose and was told that they did not have a list for distribution...that you brought your car in and they checked to see if the condition either was or wasnt' covered by CPO...most of the "big stuff" like the engine would obviously be covered, but the terms and conditions of if and when the coverage kicks in remains a divine mystery. Extended warranties list what's covered and what's excluded...and even then they try to wriggle out of paying.

It's generally common knowledge about what is or isn't a wear item...tires, brakes, light bulbs and the like....but I would think that a radiator hose on a car that only had 20K miles on it would be covered....but no...so include radiator hoses in the list of wear items.

The car should have be sold with an additional 30 day warranty after purchase. This would have given ample time to work out the unknowns not picked up in the CPO certification. My dealer, Hendrick Porsche in charlotte picked up the tab for my steering pump oil resevoir 35 days after I purchased it from them - car was also a CPO. I think the final bill would have been 1300 with parts and labor. Sorry to hear that dealer is not taking care of you.

I would talk to Laura at Hergesheimer MotorSports (http://www.hergesheimer.com/). They have a 'friend' down at Newport Beach Porsche that they send their customers to for warranty work. She would be able to tell you if you have a leg to stand on with respect to the CPO coverage.

Below is an excerpt from the CPO warranty:
"Cooling System: Water pump, fan, thermostat,
radiator thermoswitch, and all related seals
and gaskets." - no hoses listed. You might by SOL as others are saying but Laura may be able to work some magic. They are good people there.

Personally I would go after LA Porsche. They should have found evidence of a leaking hose during the CPO inspection. Best of luck.

Its really up to Dtown LA and if there willing to help. They dont have to though as it is not covered. Happened to a customer of mine and we split the difference....

IMO, LA Motors should at least split the bill with you.

It's the "right" thing to do...

Otherwise, things like this thread and word of mouth can be bad for business.

Call the GM at Downtown LA Motors. Any CPO car sold that has problems like that need to be addressed by the selling dealer. I don't ask questions if any of my customers come back with a CPO car problem within that time frame. We just fix it. That's good business.

I think they are not telling you the correct reason for non-coverage.

It is not a listed component on the CPO warranty... not that it is wear and tear.

(and I don't think there is a porsche dealer in the USA that gives a carp about word of mouth!)

Which dealer did you go to? I will ask them about the breakdown tomorrow.

Yes, and I don't think they will give out the list. You will only know when something fails on you and you take it to the dealer.

I actually did call them already, but since the price difference can probably only cover the tow fee from the dealer to them, so ...

Call the GM at Downtown LA Motors. Any CPO car sold that has problems like that need to be addressed by the selling dealer.
Agree. That's why I didn't blame Newport Beach Porsche for this, instead I called Downtown LA Porsche immediately. But obviously they don't give a ****. Will see what PCNA will say tomorrow, if not, then I will try calling their GM, which I don't think he will care too

Call the GM. If he is a good operator of the business, he will care. PCNA customer service won't do much for you. They will just relay your complaint to the selling dealer. Don't waste your time with them and just call the GM.
