Factory Ipod Adaptor

Having heard rumors on this board of a factory Ipod adaptor, I checked with my local dealer who indicated it is now available and will fit MY2003 and later with Nav/optic ring. It replaces the CD changes and offers full Ipod read out/control on the Nav screen. It also has Aux RCA a/v inputs. There is also and Bluetooth adaptor available. The IPOD adaptor is part #GW5RMT01D1. The Bluetooth adaptor is part #BTA-1000. Has anybody had this installed or have anybody been able to find it on the PCNA website?

I checked the same dealer about 2 months ago and they had no listing for this part. They said it was just released in the US. The part is $550. I not sure if its "plug and play". Of course the dealer is saying 4 hours to install.

I have heard that it is in fact a re-branded dension gateway 550 unit. The part numbers you mentioned are nearly identical to the part numbers for the Gateway unit as well as their bluetooth kit. I'd contact Eric @ Bumperplugs to see if it is the same thing....most likely his version will be waaaaay cheaper.

I have the gateway unit and the bluetooth kit and love it.

The PCNA price is $550 for the kit with a PCA discount its $495. Erics price is $475 so its a bit of a savings. Installation at the dealer is $500, which is the same I was quoted for installation by several independent installers of the gateway unit. The difference with the dealer is you get a full warranty and a free loaner for the day of the install. I've read a few threads about self install with mixed results.

Rob, does you bluetooth phone work in any mode, ie ipod, disc or radio mode?

Am I missing something?

Why not...

1) Grab one of these: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-iNfNVO5...3X&cc=01&wm=cl

2) Install

3) Sell factory headunit on Ebay for (at least) $500

4) Enjoy better sound, better nav, better... everything, and the extra $200 in your pocket.

You need to buy the entire IPOD unit to get the Bluetooth which is another $200. Given the cost of the Ipod and Blue tooth adaptor, I think it may be a better choice to replace the entire head unit (Pioneer or Kenwood with the builtin Garmin nav), amp and speakers since Bose doesn't seem work and play well with others. Of course that will end up costing like $5k but what the hell, I get all new stuff.

Makes sense. I may have to wait a while since I just got the car!

I'm almost positive I'm going to do this in my 04 TT. I really want to add iPod + Sirius functionality, but $500 for the Denison + all the money for installation, it seems cheaper to just get a new headunit (with much better functionality). I feel silly getting rid of a perfectly good factory nav unit, but I guess this makes the most sense.
