Modded Z06 VS Modded 996TT
#16
Z06's are not nuts in 6th, hell even 5th.. If you see the Motortrend video from 0-200 it falls flat on its face after 130-140 compared to the acceleration up to 100... The car is very wide and the aerodynamics/width get in the way up there, no need to worry about Z06's if like I told you, you can drive your car inside and out Turbo's pull harder and harder as MPH increases!

Exactly right. They aren't **** in 6th gear. It has a 6th gear to avoid gas guzzler taxes.
My stock 996tt felt faster than my Z06 above 130 mph.

I have raced at least 9 C6 Z06's and in first gear they have a 1/2 to 1 car length advantage. At the end of third, I am 1 to 2 car lengths ahead. If the Z06 driver is good a launching, he can take you from a start. You have the advantage from 2nd to 5th gear.

robertp whats been done to your car. I haven't raced a c6 Z06 yet and was wondering how I would do? I have an 02 X50 car with Protomotive ecu tuning, 24/18's w/new WG's, 5 bar FPR, Fabspeed exhaust, new BOV's, BMC filter, and Greddy boost controller.

True dat, BUT most Z owners are NOT good at launching as it takes many, many launches to perfect it. Slight error = bog, wheelspin or computer intervention (if TC left on).

Just a little inside info for my fellow car enthusiasts...a modded C6 Z06 (cam, CAI, headers, full exhaust, custom tune) with an above average driver will be hard to beat with a 550-575HP 996. From a dig a modded Z is very capable of 11.00 or better in the quarter at around 130mph. From a roll they run similar to a 10.80 or slightly better car. 540+RWHP at 3150lbs is an awesome combination along with the gearing in the tranny up to 5th.
We can run up to 62mph in 1st gear and pull like a freight train till 5th but still pulls stronger than you might think. As others have mentioned 5th gear over drive could be a tad better but in a 'modded' Z its not that bad. I've been 190+ and its solid as a rock, still pulling. Good luck I'd like to hear the outcome...
Example: 740 RWHP Black C5 Z06, 600+ RWHP Silver C5 Z06 and my 540RWHP C6 Z06...one night in Mexico same outcome every time.

My only gripe with the stock Z06's was pull up top.. I'm use to German car's with their gearing, where as the mph picks up acceleration just does not stop, I found in the Z06 it just hits a dead area around 140-150 (although its FAST to that point) and doesnt pull that hard after/
Now a modded one as you say utilizing the gears in a better way, I have yet to experience first hand driving or in car, so I can't say. Although I have ran into stock and modded and ran away from both! BUT I don't have a turbo ...

Totally agree with you!! Your car is quick as hell..

But...I gotta give props where props are due. An opposed/boxer 6 cylinder making the power they do is a marvel in itself not including the handling and braking... I fell more in love with Porsche when I had a chance to race and play with a 996TT for several hours at different times. After the initial shock of the clutch/brake/gas pedal actions and seat postition I was simply amazed. Talk about a drivers car...I have loved and always will love the 911's...TT's, GT2's, and GT3's not neccessarily in that order...I hope someday to add a P car to my stable.
