Going for more HP with New Mods Installed

Vivid Racing's Porsche 996TT project has been one of the most indepth and learning experience cars we have done. Having engineered and tuned many new parts for the 996 Turbo market from our car, we still have the urge to keep going to the next level. After the completion of our 650 Turbo Kit, we wanted to squeeze some more horsepower out of the car. We needed more air flow and more fuel!

First, we added the Innovative Auto Intercooler Pipe Kit as seen HERE. This pipe kit is designed to replace the factory intercooler cooler ducting which is very restrictive due to the shape of the pipe behind the motor and its cast piece to the factory intake. The Innovative Auto component features an aluminum intake tube that flows much more volume of air without any major restrictions like the factory unit. The kit uses strong durable flex hose to connect to the turbo inlets for the best air flow possible. Suggested, this kit is suppose to add 30-40 horsepower to basic stage 2 cars... We are testing that now!

Next to keep the air flow going, we added our Prototype Agency Power Intake Plenum. The 70mm plenum features CNC machined flanges to connect to the throttle body and the stock intake manifolds. The curved piping helps the plenum direct the air in a more efficient manner as well as increase volume. This part is a direct bolt in replacement of the stock plastic plenum. Suggested, the plenum should add about 20 horsepower on a stage 2 car... We will see!

Finally, to increase fuel, we upgraded the factory injectors with RC Engineering 60lbs injectors. These injectors are a direct replacement for the stock ones. Fitting in the fuel rail with no modifications, the injectors are designed to reduce the injector duty cycle percent as we increase boost and advance timing for more power. View our fuel components HERE.

These 3 modifications are very labor intensive. As seen in the gallery, the entire engine had to be dropped. Our technician was able to pull the motor and put it back together in 2 days. While the motor is out, it is a good time to replace your clutch, we skipped it though .

We plan on finishing our ECU Tuning and will have new dyno results shortly, so stay tuned....

I would love to post a dyno... but those things called customer cars keep getting in the way I HOPE TOMORROW! I expect to be about 40-50HP above my initial 650 runs.

RC does great work. Are the injectors stock units modified by RC?

Looks interesting Dan. One comment regarding the ribbed hose you are using to connect the intake to the turbos. If it is ribbed on the inside of the hose, as it is on the outside, the ribbing *might* create turbulence inside the hose that impairs the smooth flow of air. I say *might* because I do not know for certain. However, I know of a tuner that previously used a similar ribbed hose in the same application, and I heard a different tuner opine that the ribbing might be counter-productive to smooth airflow. Similar products offered by other tuners (e.g., Gemballa) use hoses with smooth interior walls.

Good luck with the dyno testing.

I agree with Craig, I was told the same thing many moons ago... but then the hose may be a few bucks at Home Depot anyways.... So getting it right is a no brainer...
But then I hear different stories when it comes to headers too... one tuner believes in bigger diameter equal length runners are better( produce more power) Vs. stock short ported headers... who is right? if anyone...
If I recall correctly my FVD one was ribbed inside too.

Interesting observation about the headers Markski. I recently saw a photo posted here of some custom headers (I forgot who made them -- maybe IA?) and I was struck by how different the tube lengths were. I always thought equal length headers were desirable (something about pulses), but these headers could not have had more different lengths.

Yes I saw that too... but then I do not have equal length headers either... does that negate my Performance ? who knows... The only way to prove it is to do some testing.... and that may come of surprise too....
If we would be building F1 cars I would think that every 1/1000th of anything would matter... but in our case we are just screwing around with mid HP cars... I doubt that any header( stock or after market) nor a hose ( ribbed or smooth) will actually produce any better or worse results on a 600 crank HP car... In my opinion, use common sense... and don't buy into the HP game...
