What an amazing car. Definitely one-ups all the 911 engines and leaps and bounds over any 911 tranny.

F1 style.

It looks like it was written as an advertisement for BMW by BMW or their ad agency. The car will no doubt be awesome and I'll probably buy one but you'd have to hold me at gunpoint to take a car from the first model year. Brand new engine and transmission. Be afraid, be very afraid!

I agree with you, Red Devil. Care to share some pics of your modded M5?

Yet another B-M-Trouble-U. Let's see how many of these engines will blow up.

Well here's one example, I had to fight with BMW NA for 3 months to get them to replace my motor when my connecting rod shattered and shot through the oil pan.

I agree with Hamann. While the trouble I had and those of people I know were varied, BMW didn't step up and blamed everyone/everything instead of just fixing it. They do not go to bat for the owner with the dealer, but Porsche doesn't either. Every new engine they've had lately has had some minor to major problems from heavy oil useage, Vanos problems and blown M3 motors. This one will be no different, maybe worse. BMW & M-B are slipping badly in quality and they better wake up before it's too late. I've got better things to do than take my car in, even if it is covered by warranty. If you get one early be prepared and do communicate with your fellow owners because there is strength in numbers.

The new M5 should be an amazing machine when it runs. As previously stated by Jim and Tyson, I have bad feelings about the longevity of this engine. The new software used on today's cars is getting out of control and the BMWs lead the way. There is always a fault code on for the most simple of things that cannot be turned off by anyone but the dealer. Needless to say, most dealers are ruthless (lucky if you can find a good one). That being said, I have a feeling we will all want the new M5 after the reviews come out.

2000 M5 and early M3's all had engine problems...

I'll wait a year or two, skip the early premium, and then get one when the kinks are worked out....

This looks like something special though.....
