If you want to get a good TWO PIECE FIXED ROTOR for CHEAP, send an OEM rotor to COLEMAN RACING: http://www.colemanracing.com/

They can make whatever you want in whatever size you want for PENNIES, compared to some of these vendor prices being offered... Mine cost $1100 per PAIR.

They can also do FLOATING rotors to your custom sizes... I have mine set at the 350MM size with the 6 piston GT3 caliper and clear the OEM Turbo Twist stock turbo wheels.

There's a ton of mis-information out here, which is why some here have ended up having to buy wheels after being told the brembos would clear the OEM wheels... The aftermarket brembo 355mm kits will NOT... However, the STOCK GT3 caliper does (I have one for sale and you can get the other from Suncoast). Performance Friction wants $1200 per pair for their rotor setup, but don't make an OEM TURBO setup, ONLY the GT2/3. If you don't have a GT2, you're screwed, or so I thought... Again, Coleman Racing will custom make your hats and rotors to your specs. They will provide slotted, solid, or crossdrilled, in a direction or straight vein venting... Your call... They've done a lot of these, and will be building another set as spares for me...

my gut reaction is $2k is a bit steep considering pricing of the entire brembo upgraded kit. but then again i don't know the weight reduction. so can someone discuss the weight savings?

FlyYellow...that would be great, and maybe they can get us some group rates....I'd want the 350mm since I'm running the GT3 6 pot like Mikelly.....I think the PFC's should be good as apparently they do alot of track testing....and for the money $1k roughly per pair is not too bad............................................... .................................................. ...................Mikelly....so does Coleman racing already have the pattern for the 350mm rotor setup in stock? Did you weigh those mike?

Have you been through a set yet to see how much longer they last?

Oh and do you have to replace the hats as well.

I think the most important variables to consider for many of us is:

Cost

Vs

Weight - How much weight will we lose
Performance- How well they work
Time - How long they last
Residual - How much for replacements

The best blend of all 4 works for me. I assume many of them will work about the same, but Time and Weight carry a big opinion as well.

I have autometrics working on some stuff for me right now including rotors, so I'll report back when they let me know.

This is exactly what I had hoped the group would pursue...thank you everyone! I may actually be able to afford 2 piece, light rotors this or next season.

I didn't weigh them on a scale, but can confirm that they are lighter than the stock 330MM units. Dez, that doesn't help you at all, but I don't currently have the car in my posesssion so I can't even take one off to weigh it, but I'm guessing that the weight savings is probably no more than 5# per rotor, since these are 350MM units.

I checked the thickness of these when I bought them, and mic'ed them after the 3 day weekend at vir and they are still the exact same thickness as when I intalled them. So three days fairly hard driving with PAGID Yellows on them, and no signs of wear.

I was told by Coleman that if I overnight them a unit they can send as many new rotors back to me as I want within 5 days. The hats they make custom there and are about a 2 week turnaround. I believe that these guys are the cheapest way to go for a two piece rotor that will meet your specifications.

Now, as to true weight savings, I don't think there's a rotor around that you'll be happy with that will both save weight, and last a season of hard track use. If weight truly is that important, you might seriously think about other areas. Either that, or suck up the rediculous cost and go with PCCBs.

FWIW, Coleman Racing supplies these same brake components to many major pro teams in the industry, along with supplying many "resellers" for their re-packaged brake kits". The kit I bought was sold by another Porsche Vendor here, but the parts came from Coleman... I bought them used from a member on rennlist for $550 for the rotors and two sets of pads.

So when you replace do you have to replace the hats as well?
Do you also have to send them a unit every time you need some made or can they not just send me the same ones you have on your car?

I dont have any unrealistic expectations, but with being able to get two sets of 997 TT rotors from Suncoast shipped for about $900 it does present a challenge. I'm either looking for significant weight loss, or longer lasting or something that's a good combination of both.

mike , since you worked with them in the past can you ask what our pricing would be if we could get an order of 10 rotors in. Some may be the gt3 calipers and others may be the regular 996tt calipers. would you be willing to do that?

yes that would great if we could find out some sort of group pricing.....I would be interested for of coarse the weight savings,as well as the reduction in heat at the hub....I know on Subaru STi's, wheel bearings fail quite often on cars equipped with the brembos due to the excessive heat they produce.....I've switched to 2 piece on my STi to help with this problem...my set saved about 4lbs per rotor..

Dez, The hat is reusable and once they have you in the system with yuor required size/type, all you do is call them up and tell them you need X# of left and X# of right rotors and hardware kits. Once you're setup in their system, you're set. I honestly think getting away from cross drilling on your fronts will help your rotors last a lot longer. Jim McNemar ran his GT3 last season on one set of slotted rotors (Not crossdrilled) and two sets of pads, and he's running 2:04s at VIR and averages about 25-30 track days per year... He's using the PF floating setup on his.

Guys, I don't have the kind of time that it would take to chase down a group buy for something like this. I've not mentioned this before, but I essentially have two jobs, one working a project as a consultant to a Federal Gov't agency, and another as the owner of the Consulting Firm that consults to the Federal Gov't. With 15 employees and five contracts to deal with, it's all I can do to get free time for my family and some form of normal life.

Coleman Racing is very easy to work with and all you have to do is call them up, chat with them, send them a rotor and tell them the size you need. I honestly don't think a group buy will save much since we're talking prices that are less than HALF what the competitors are asking for their "kits".
