Rotors - Who makes the lightest weight rotors?

I think we need a Sticky for brake tech info...

This is part of the real issue with dealing with rotors for the 996Turbo. PFC does NOT have the Turbo offset. They sell a GT2/3 rotor. So the only way you can buy the PFC floating (loud clackety clickity on a street car) rotor is to swap to the GT2/3 uprights, which isn't cheap.

Oh damn didn't even know that, would be money to get them to work on a turbo then... I hear they are real good and might try them out, although I have multi piece cup rotors now it probably wouldn't be any better except maybe less wear since they aren't drilled and no more cracking.
Btw will you be making the vir may 23-25 event with first settlers? Summit may 5-6 ?

I just talked with Dan @ Vivid and the Brembo kit that Al Norton is using is now an option for me. The rotors are said to last long time and replacements would be around $800 and pads cheaper over pagids. I would probably lose 20+ lbs on just the front.
Lets say we do a cost vs benefit analysis: Learned this from watching some of the racers at the track with their notebooks adding up all the fees they pay for support.
Brembo: 1 Year (10 events)
Kit- 3300
Pads (1 set per 3 events x $300) = $600 - subtracted one set that comes with kit.
Rotors- (1 set per 7 events x $778) = $366 - subtracted one set that comes with kit
Weight savings over 6 piston - 20 lbs
Total = 4366
2nd Year and after total = 2044
6 Piston with 997 TT rotors
Pads (1 set every 3 events x 389) = 1296
Rotors (1 set every 4 events x $415) = 1037
Total = 2333
6 Piston with custom rotors (coleman)
Pads (1 set every 3 weekends x 389) = 1296
Rotors (1 set every 6 events x 1100) = 1833
Weight savings over 6 Piston
Total = 3129
Seems to me like the Brembo provide the best long term value for those of us with the 6 piston kit as other direct rotor replacements are going to cost even more than coleman on the annual. 4 piston guys do your own.

Dez, don't forget to factor in the cost of wheels. Those Brembo aftermarket calipers won't clear an OEM rotor. Talk to Tom Kerr before you spend your money.
The Coleman option will run you about $1000 initially and then the replacement rotors run approx. $175 each and hardware kits are about $70 per pair.
So initial cost is $1000
Replacement rotors and hardware are less than $500 shipped.
I don't know how many events a set of direction veined slotted rotors is going to last, but from everything I've read, you'll get a lot longer use than anything crossdrilled.

I asked earlier if the hats were reuseable and you didnt answer so I assumed they werent.
For that price for replacements I'm in for sure.
COUNT ME IN!
If that's not enough for everybody, nothing will be. I'll give it a couple (1) days, then I'm placing order.

I'm not in the system since I bought them used off another member over on rennlist. However, They have made these for several others, and should have the specs... It's their 1.25-1.4inch thick slotted vein vent rotor 12bolt unit. The only issue you'll have is the hat. They need an old rotor to pull the measurements to make your hats off of. Then they cut your rotor to spec.

I believe the minimum barrel diameter for the Brembo kit should be 421-422mm. I had clearance problems after getting brake assy. very hot at Carolina Motorsports Park. The radius of the Brembo assy. is 209.5mm.
The quote I got from Race Technologies (Brembo Distributor in US) last November for Ferodo 3000 pads for front was $425+ shipping. The PFC 01's that I run (with shipping) are $498. I got 3 events out of PFC 97 compound and it appears I may not get 3 out of the 01. I don't run my car as hard as Heavychevy does.
My rotors currently have about 675 minutes on them and look great.

They are a huge upgrade for the track, I would call ViperBob he gets good deals on these and would hook you guys up, tell him I told you to call

I just threw some away myself... Four of them...Call them, as they do hold onto specs. Maybe they can pull it from another customer's card. You could also send them one of your existing rotors (on the car) or order one 997T rotor from Suncoast and send it... I plan to have a pair of those as backups "just incase" I'm at the track without the others. I need to go ahead and order a spare pair of rotors/hardware, but don't have the car back yet.

Good Idea, I can retire the TT rotors now and just keep the car up on jackstands for a bit till the new ones get here. Then I'll always have a backup set.

Tom, I agree the Brembos are a huge upgrade for the track. With big rubber on the car it really knocks the speed down in a short distance. I have only found 2 companies making pads for these monoblocs. What pads are you using, and what has your experience been with them? Initial bite, release, longevity?
#75
Well Tom and I rode in each others cars while at VIR and I saw no difference in the two. Don't get me wrong. The aftemaket Brembos are worthy stoppers, just as good if not better than the GT3 OEM Caliper. The real issue for some of us is the "total" cost to get into these. The investment in wheels was a show stopper for me personally.
