Those with the 3.8 L kit..Was it worth it?
Hi All
I was just curious to know, for those if you that bite the bullet and went with the 3.8 L kit was it worth it? I know that going this way will give you more TQ, but would you do it again? I guess why I'm asking is I am thinking about going this way and wanted to hear from those that have done it. It's very hard to find someone North of the border that has done this type of work, so if I do this who should the car go to and what are your suggestions as in other parts for the internals? I would only assume that when you do this you are going with a Carrillo Rod. I would like to hear from the tuners and how long should something like this take. So if I wanted to drive south and get the work done, how long would I need to book a hotel? I am very open to suggestions and would like to hear from anyone that has some input. Also just to clarify when I am doing the short block, I have many other things going on at that time , turbo, IC ect ect,. The Kit and rod can be drop shipped to you in less then 10 days if I go this way.
Thanks

I love mine!!!! 1,000 plus miles and thus far no issues (crossing my fingers and toes)!! I would recommend that who ever builds your car HAS built a 3.8 liter 996 turbo! Not a 993 3.8 liter! PM for additional info.
Good luck

The sound alone on a 3.8 is worth it The car will develop a broader TQ band and more power under the curve. Bear in mind there are a lot of kits out there and some are good and some are not. Do choose someone that has been down this road and successfully built a 3.8. Without proper knowledge one can wreck your motor.

I dont have it but from the initial response i'm glad i didnt do it.. most of them had some piston sleeve issues from a bad design... but now I see the light... lets see how they hold up..

I can't wait to hear Suman's numbers and Rob's final numbers. These 3.8's are going to be amazing, just wish I could afford one or even a built motor so I could let these turbos I have shine LOL!

I personally do not have one but have had the opportunity to drive several 3.8 TT's and would definately do it to mine. You can definately feel the difference and it's worth the extra $ IMO.
