Banging Noise While Going Over Bumps -- Solved

When I go over bumps, I hear a banging noise behind me. For the longest time, I assumed it was the suspension (sorry Alex, my bad), but I just discovered that it was actually the sunroof. My ears tell me the sound is coming from much further behind me, but I guess my ears have been playing tricks on me.

If the sunroof is closed, I hear the noise. If it's up, or back, I don't. If it's closed and I apply gentle pressure from the bottom (with my hand), the noise goes away.

So, I experimented with some adhesive foam tabs. I tried them everywhere. The following pics illustrate what worked for me. I know it doesn't make any sense when you look at it, but it works. I don't really even understand why.

If you have the same problem, give it a try. I'd love to hear other people's experiences.

Is this the slight high pitched "klanging" noise that you thought came from the suspension as you hit small bumps?

You might have just solved my $100M question ...

I'll try this tomorrow and report back

I should mention -- I found an easy way to test...

Get in the car and slam the door closed -- not violently, but not gently. If you hear a similar noise to the banging you hear when you go over bumps, then you've found it. Once you apply the foam, slam the door to test your repair. Worked for me.

Saint Ari, I'll settle for 10%.

I had the exact problem. My solution was to put Velcro tape, the soft fuzzy side, along the bottom where you placed the foam. It seems to work well.

Have you had people complain that their suspension or exhaust was making noise and you couldn't find the problem? That would suck if you wasted all that time and it turned out to be an issue with the sunroof.

BLKM3 is infamous around these parts
In my car around 3k, I have a very fast machine gun rattle. Its coming from the plastic bar right before the rear window. Ever since I installed the straightpipes, it rattled the whole car loose!

Loud clunk

@ELMEL
Hey my friend! I just added a roll cage, but now experiencing a loud clunk like your describing. It seems like its coming from the back, but could be the sunroof. Do you have any pics of what you did to solve the clunk? Also, i am local in bay aea.
