1 month into my turbo ownership.. my experience. the good and the bad
so its been a month into my turbo ownership....
THE GOOD
and i must say, the car itself is absolutely AMAZING....
i never really understood what people meant when they said its the "ulimate everyday sports car"...
i put about 1000 miles on it.. half city , half highway...
i get FANTASTIC mileage (about 30mpg on the highway, and 15 in the city)
after doing my alignment, and tweaking the suspension, its not super bumpy anymore..
the power is there when i want it, no hesitation, no lag, and its stable as hell...
aside from putting in a quart of oil every month, and adjusting tire pressure every week, theres not really anything else the car requires from me...
everytime im in it, i have a smile on my face...
Law enforcement is REALLY cool with me(most of them), and often give me a thumbs up, or pull up and ask questions regarding the mods/power etc... VERY VERY cool guys
THE BAD
The only bad experiences ive had with this car, are with people.
My neighbors really think im a drug dealer. A few of them complain that its too loud, and the others ask me how much i paid, what i do for a living, etc etc...
Whenever i go to a cafe or lounge, there is ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS someone who claims that i paid too much for the car, that it had paint work done, or that the miles were rolled back.
When i go to car washes, i hear peope make comments on how my parents must have bought me the car, or that im a spoiled kid....
People often DO NOT let me switch lanes on the highway, and im often tailgated by honda civics/ g35's etc...
out of 10 people that compliment the car, 8 of them immediately ask how much i paid for it, and if its a lease.
out of those 8 people, 7 of them have a "friend who has a xxx that will smoke the porsche".
ive already had someone hit my front bumper when parking (already repainted it), and on two occasions have found spit/gum on my windows ....
i dont know why, but when people strike up a conversation about the car, they assume it gets terrible gas mileage, and get very happy when they say "what are you gonna do when gas is $5/gallon ? you cant drive a car like this in NYC, they break down a lot, theyre always in the shop, etc etc"
all in all, i love the car. it puts a smile on my face every single day, and im not afraid to drive it hard once in a while. it gives me a lot of confidence, and feels like its glued to the road. the flywheel chatter gets annoying once in a while, but thats only in low rpm, or if im at a red light. the brakes are a bit sensitive and bite VERY hard and create dust like no other.
the only issue is with envious people that somoetimes upset me, but whatever.... i guess you cant have your cake and eat it too..
if any of you guys are thinking about purchasing a 996tt, i honestly think there is no other car, anywhere near the price range that will be as fun and rewarding as this car.. .

Great write up! I'm glad you enjoy the car the way it should be! As for the haters, just let them hate. You know the story, they don´t. Thats enough for me to walk away with a big smile on my face. (even though I don't own a Porsche, I meant generally in arguments where people just being haters)

One word to sum up all the BADs, jealousy; human nature... nothing we can do. So, there is really no BAD side owning a P. Like you, whenever my wife sees me with a smile, she knows where I have been.

yea, i dont know why people hate so much
to the people on the site that know me, i am not in the least beat cocky or stuck up, and i ALWAYS give anyone who asks for a ride around the block a ride..
in fact i give people with "cheaper" cars (m5's, etc thumbs up while in my porsche)
and i still gets excited when i see another porsche
hell, when i was at Manhattan Motor Cars, i let a few 6speeders tear up a gallardo
