I have no other reason to think otherwise. It's a fact that the car is running stronger now at less boost after the change in ICs and hoses. Only other possible explanation could be that the ECU was pulling timing with the higher boost levels, but I'm running same fuel and same AFRs so it's unlikely.

Hi Jimmer

Do you have data showing how your car compare before and after? I do think that lower boost can give you better results on a VMAX type of run. I seriously doubt that the ICs have done anything at all though.

Did you get my comments concerning your run BTW?
Cheers

Jean,

Being as your the resident expert on porsches, and live here in Dubai, any thoughts on some of the local shops being able to fab up some nice intercoolers, with the large tuning community here i've seen a couple shops that fab custom intercoolers and radiators, would be easier/cheaper than getting them sent from the US or Canada....

I think we met on the track recently? You have the 996TT with CF hood? Wonderful car!

I am no expert, I am just questioning data posted all over the place about how amazing inexpensive ICs always are. Yet no one has done any meaningful and independent test on any of them with a real life WOT run measuring IATs in 4th-5th gear.

I would measure IAT with the stock ICs when you are at the track and then decide how poorly they are running, at least you will have a basis. FWIW the 996GT2 that is racing here and doing wonders is still on stock GT2 ICs.

My choice would go for whatever your tuner has tuned with and calibrated for, a poorly sized IC will give you more lag and drop in pressure, eliminating whatever marginal benefits you get from slightly incremental efficiency. If you are after quick runs (quartermile etc..), then one of these ICs might help indeed.

Unless you are going for MAD POWER, the GT2 Intercoolers will be fine. Porsche rates them at 10% greater efficiency than the K16 variant. My GT2 intercoolers are 4Sale for $500 + shipping. Used 1 season. PM if interested.

Jimmer,

Your experience with IC's are interesting. Maybe you found a difference because of your work to free up the airflow to the filter, and freeing up the airflow for your IC just removed the next bottleneck? Did you fit your IC's after your airbox mod?

Jean - I got your email - sorry, been crazy busy with work and then Oulton today. Not just VMAX, same 1/4mi traps now too. You have mail.

deandob - Did the ICs in Nov, and the new airbox mod in Jan. Could be a combination of both, who knows.

Markski - The Durametric datalogs in real-time any number of variables - IAT being one of them. Next time out I'll hook it up and look to see what effect the ICs have on the intake air charge during a long WOT pull. My Y-pipe is *ice cold* to the touch after 25min track sessions - I don't really need any more proof than that.

Jimmer, your comments about the better driveability of your car, did you notice the gains after the IC change (before the airbox changes)?
