Car wont start..help needed.

I know you guys are 996tt experts..here is the problem.

I went to start my car and the battery was low, it turned over then started to click. I hooked up the trikle charger and 4 day later I tried to start it again. The engine turned over at normal pace but it wouldnt start. I tried again and i wouldnt fire. I got an engine failure indicator light and the fuel guage shows totally empty. I disconnected the battery for 5 minutes and tried again; now the engine wont even turn over or click and the failure light stays on. The battery has a full charge and jumping it didnt make a difference. Anyone else have this issue?

I had the same problem with my car last month. Even though I charged the battery, the car wouldn't start. I bought a new battery, voila, the car is started immediately.

I am not an expert by any means, just telling you what happened to me.

my experience was similar and I needed a new battery. You could have volts but not make enough amps to turn the engine over. Similar to hp versus torque; got to have the torque.

Same thing happened to me. Even though my battery was on a trickle charge for a week, it still wouldn't hold a charge.

Time for a new battery.

Just call your local dealer service dept. and give them your VIN. They may require proof of ownership. That's it.

You can not trickle charge a dead battery. They will only maintain a charged battery.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, this happened to me last summer as well. Installing a new battery did the trick.

DO NOT rely on a voltmeter to tel you if your battery is GOOD. (Sure if it is under voltage it is definitely bad.)

I can put a charge of a few hundred volts on a comb, still won't start the car.

Point is that once a battery is shot, it has no capacity to delivery the current you need- it may look good voltage wise, but it is not delivering the right current and voltages.

I'd say new battery if it is over 4 years old- pretty common issue.

Thanks for all the replies. Here is why it cant be the battery. I recently replaced the battery and I can rule it out as the problem because the engine turned over at normal pace but it wouldnt fire. I tryed a couple times and it just kept cranking but wouldnt fire. Now it wont turn over or click. All the interior light ect come on with full power. Could I have damaged something in the ecu when it had a low charge and would click? I read on another forum that aftermarket obslute chip had solder issues and this caused the same problem...I am stuck at this point.

Okay so I bought a new battery and the problem is still there. I even left the battery unplugged for 15 minutes to reset the ecu and still no luck.

Did you try to jump start it before you had these problems, before you decided to use a charger? Late model Porsches aren't happy when you try to jump them. This happened to me when I had a dead battery and tried to jump start mine. Jumping sometimes blows-out a relay that operates the fuel system. The relay has a specific name but I can't remember it now, although it causes the same symptoms you are having. Relay is about $90-100 bucks from what I remember too.
