when i stopped by asking about hre's they were pushing the wheels pretty hard...
they said that the TE wheels are of high grade alloys, same grade as HRE's, higher than i forged.
only 5 inch lip available according to that guy...
but i hear that the wheels have not really undergone testing so who knows?

LSM..thanks. I am not into being the guinea pig. I want the wheel on your Bimmer (Ragenergie), but I don't think will happen. I am desperately seeking wheels for my 996, but I can't find what I am looking for.

I really like the design of 2 of the TE wheels (mode 10 and mode 20) that bydesign has. As for HRE, the only wheel I really like is the 843, but it isn't available as a 3 piece. This is the only tough decision for me as far as mods go. There are too many wheel choices, but very few I really like enough to buy. I like when the spoke of the wheel goes all the way to the edge of the lip. IMO it makes the wheel look bigger. I also want the area where the lug nuts go to not be too recessed. I also am 95% sure about the look of a 3 piece.
I realize I might be nitpicking, but if I'm going to drop ~$6k or so on wheels, I'm going to do so without making concessions. If only the Radenergie wheel was available for my car the decision would be pretty simple. It meets all of my criteria. The bydesign wheels look very good in the pictures, but I am awaiting more detailed photos from them. I am also concerned with their reputation. They already dropped the ball on sending me pictures yesterday as they promised on 2 phone conversations.

All HRE wheel comes standard in 3 piece, esp 840 series offers hidden hardware design.
Oak's ride w/843R Brushed.......

A friend of mine purchased the TE Mode 10 wheels for his Phantom. By Design has a couple of pictures of his car at their http://homepage.mac.com/mansouri hosting site.
According to Michael, the wheels have undergone extensive testing including load testing. The Phantom's gross vehicle weight is 6,680 lbs, and the wheels were tested to withstand a payload rating of more than 2,000 lbs each so the four wheels could easily withstand the Phantom's gross weight plus more.
I was considering the HRE 540R wheels, but after seeing the TE Mode 20 wheels painted blue and installed on a blue Lamborghini Murcielago at By Design, I was sold! They have pictures of these wheels on the same site above.
