I noticed several people on the forum have Evos. How easy are they to mod and how reliable are they once modded for big hp? What would you consider the major pros and cons of the Evo?

I'm looking for a new DD. Does anyone use a modded Evo as a DD?

very reliable once modded/tuned right. big hp is cake, 500+whp evos are dime a dozen. easy, cheap and fast...

cons... heavily modded evo are not good DD, you'll hate life.

+1

The *simple* mods (tune/turbo etc.) will give you a ton of easy power and are quite reliable .. Once you start pushing the custom installs and 500+ hp setups you are going to become good friends with your local mechanic.

Yep I have one... very reliable...
It put down 640 AWHP thats in the high 700s crank on high boost.....
I run it 20 psi on pump gas... 400 awd and I beat TTs very easily... I have 9800 rpms with full boost at 4350... most that get a ride get scared.
It trapped 139+ mph and did 10.2 sec...
For someone that does not want to wait 6 months to build one... mine is ready ...
markski

I have one and it is for sale as well.

It is a fun DD and reliable. It is reliable because it is built from top to bottom and has new diff and tranny upgrades. If you were to buy one with more than 500chp that did not have a built motor and diff/tranny/motor ugrades you would quickly find the need to. You can get 400whp and decent reliability on the stock turbo with some bolt ons and a tune. You can also get the car under 3000lbs by some basic lightweight measures. It is the power to weight factor and the AWD system that makes the car so nimble and capable, IMO.

My car put down 587whp / 505wtq on race (36psi), 520whp / 452wtq on pump/meth (32psi), and 404whp / 372wtq on pump (19psi). The car and setup can get into the mid 600's whp but, I wanted a square tune (hp close to tq) and adjsted the cams accodingly. Most EVOs have high HP number but low torque.

If you are looking for a relativey inexpensive toy for DD/track that has strong capabilities look no further than an EVO. Like Markski I have taken a few friends of mine for rides in it who are avid car buffs/track junkies and it scares the living isht out of them. This car will run 10's all day long and if you want 9's you bolt a bigger turbo on and retune purposefully........IMHO the EVO is not a drag car and was made for the road course.
