Completely Dead Batery...Need Advice

The Battery in my '01 996TT is completely dead. I have tried to hook a donor battery to the (+) post in the fuse panel and the (-) door latch striker, but no luck. I have tried a few different battery chargers connected to the same points described in the owners manual, but no luck. I have read a few posts describing a manual pull wire for the trunk but i cant find it. I need to get into the trunk to replace the battery. Can anyone provide some advice. Thanks in advance.

Providing a 12 volt charge to the proper places will trigger the front hood latch. Make sure you have the terminals attached correctly.

I attached the cables to the terminals as described on the little paper attached to the back of the fuse box cover. I also tried a different ground. Still no luck. While everything was connected, I checked the voltage with my multimeter. I was getting 13.35v. I believe this is more than adequate voltage to energize the trunk actuator. Does anybody know the exact location (if any) of a manual pull release cable?

In the void space behind the passenger side headlight, high up in the wheelwell, you should find the looped end of a steel cable. This is the emergency release for the trunk lid. If you don't see it there, jack and support the car, then get underneat the right front fender and look up into that area. It may have slipped down.

You can jump your car via the positive post in the engine compartment, also. Use something soft and thin (paint stir stick, kitchen plastic spatula) to insert below your left side tail light. Pry up gently on the light unit while looking underneath with a light. Should find the same type steel cable loop described above. Fish it out with a thin, hooking tool, piece of wire, etc, and pull to open the engine cover.

Perhaps this is too basic, but what about plugging a battery charger into the cig lighter and let it trickle?

You can not trickle charge a dead battery back to life (that is why they are called maintainers)

When a Porsche battery dies, there is usually no way to bring them back to life. Considering this is an '01, its about due to be replaced. I have had luck finding exact fit replacements at either Pep Boys or Autozone. A little over $100 and a lot cheaper than the dealer. Bring the battery with you to measure for size.
