first off you got ***** for putting yourself out there like that, and i respect that
if this was a bmw forum they would be all over you, lol. but this forum is far more mature
so on to the question at hand,
if cars are a priority for you and you would be willing to sacrifice the finer things (exotic vacations, $10k watches, etc) then i would say you could afford one, but with a decent income i hope you have already purchased a home, started investments, etc.
If you have i would say think wisely and do what seems right to you, it seems you have the financial means to purchase one assuming you have made intelligent decisions with investing money.
So if i were you i would go for it
best of luck to you

there are a bunch of them on ebay and autotrader...on autotrader there is a tiptronic 911 23k miles with evoms gt700 and much more mods for only $50,500

[quote=ezmoney888;1767465]First of all, someone mentioned opening a restaurant this year. It is never really a good idea in any year but this year will be particularly hard for new restaurant concepts. Building costs are going through the roof, food costs are ever increasing and labor is becoming more expensive. San Francisco Bay Area already has its share of good restaurants. quote]

huh?

I'm surprised no one asked how much of that $300k went out towards expenses and bills.

I don't understand how you are having trouble with this and how any one of us has anything to do with it. You spend as you must and in terms of affordability. It's not like everybody here bought the car once they reached a "certain" income level/net worth bracket. If you are having doubts, then its probably not a good idea to get one!

$250k, haha but that is a valid question, but that may be getting to personal asking what his mortgage and spending habits are

thanks Chris. not sure why anyone would jump all over me, that seems like a pretty lame way of treating my question...i agree with all your points, and to save the insults, i wont share anymore of my financial information, but i have made very smart, prudent decisions. savings, home ownership, maxed out retirmeent, etc. i've done all the things dad told us to do. thanks again for the reponse, sounds like i'm in better shape then i expcted.

i excpected everyone on here to have $1mm net worth and $250k+ salaries, but sounds liek thats not the case.

thanks again. hopefully i'll get my car soon!

Your in a really good position to be able to splurge a little bit and purchase the car.

I mean, i'm sure you worked very hard in sales to get that 300k. You should reward yourself, it's motivation.

But depending on your spending habits and business intuition, you could really put that extra 60k+ to good use.

exactly, most people fall into parkinson's law - "expenses rise to exceed income"

This thread also has to do with the costs that come along with owning the car, and many people here have far more knowledge about that than the OP which is why he posted, to gain some of the information, because if someone tells him maintenance is $10k a year (hypothetically) vs. $1k a year (again hypothetically) he would have to reconsider the decision with that new information

thats the dilelmna, by asking if i can afford it i didnt mean can i make the car payment, thats obvious. i guess im trying to gather if its a good idea or not. $60k invested vs $60k for a depreciating asset?

i think you will get legitimate answers from people with the $250k+ salaries and high net worths because they can compare, etc. but there are many people on here that do not and they will give nonsensical answers for obvious reasons, i say "its your money, you worked hard, get it" as my dad once says when it comes to luxury purchases "i dont have to justify it, i do it because i can" and then my response was "money is just paper, money can be made in time, regret and experiences cannot be recreated and last for a lifetime" (but again i said that when my dad was paying for everything, haha)

my next post was going to hit that head on. but i imagine more time searching or a visit to my dealer will answer that. seems like the 996TT is a "bargain" re: maintenance compared to other cars (AM,F Cars, etc.)
