To R-compound or not?

To R-compound or not?
I am trying to decide between Pilot Sports 2 and Sports Cup for track use.
I've been to 7 track weekends on P-zeros. The general wisdom is that you learn more by starting with street tires. My question is am I ready to upgrade to Sports Cup or should I stay pure street for another year or so.
Advice much appreciated.

It varies by driver. You're going to get better answers out of instructors who know you and your driving.
I've had quite a bit more track experience than you it sounds, and I'm just now getting to where I want the Cups.

In the long run, you will become a better driver by running on the street tires till they become a limiting factor. I don't know you or your skills, but I know after 7 events I was still the limiting factor in my cars performance. In fact, I am still the limiting factor after 40+ driving events.

Besides the track days, I also do a lot of autocrosses (more than 10 a season). Together, I have gone through two sets of P-Zeros.
I am getting close with the autocross but not near the limit of the street tires on the tracks. Maybe I will buy some autocross R compound tires and stay with street tires for the track.
Thanks for the advice.

Heya ypshan, I've got the cups and use them all the time on the street and the track.
Don't bother using them for AutoX though. That sorta stuff is over so fast and yet it takes a couple of good laps around the track to heat them up before they get sticky...
