'01 Turbo with 38,000 Miles
Still trying to purchase a Turbo and came across an Arctic Silver '01 with 38,000 miles. Would you ever consider buying one for a fair price if it were clean? What else is there to consider that I'm forgetting about? What would be a fair price for this?
I leaning towards buying from a dealer because I have a '99 Carrera and an '04 Touareg that I'd like to trade in. Part of me doesn't want to deal with trying to sell both vehicles. It would sure be nice to trade both of them in and be done with it.
I figure this '01 is worth around $78-80K? I can probably afford about $90-95K but it sure would be nice to get one for less and have some money for an exhaust, etc.
Does anyone know any other dealers that would take both vehicles in as a trade that might have a Turbo for me?
Any other advice? My mind is foggy because this is such an emotional purpose. I need voices of reason.

OK....who has over 38K miles and is still running strong?
I was told that I'd probably have to replace the diverter valves.
Looks like it was a businessman's car. Tire edges aren't very feathered and looks like mostly freeway commuting miles.
When do the turbos need replacing and how much would that cost? Would that be covered by an extended warranty?
Thanks guys.

You can a get car with 10K for the low 80s. I can't Imagine a car with 38K is worth more than the low 70s? Not really sure about the high mileage cars since there aren't too many around. I am positive you can get very clean 01 with 10K or less for 80-85.
One more thing to consider: these cars are up to 10K less expensive in the winter when half of the country can't or won't take them out of the garage. The hefty payments and no access to the car are a big motivator for many people. If you can wait 5-7 months, and are willing to travel and ship, you could get a much better deal. A big hassle that is defnitely not everyone's cup of tea.
here is car on ebay for 92K (buy it now). You may be able to get it for the mid 80s? http://www.ecarlink.com/cgi-bin/index.pl?ph_dir=687488

Fair enough. It IS mid summer and rates are on their way up.
I am looking to purchase one in the next 12 months? as soon as my new home construction is completed. Realistically, when you are buying a 80+K car, who cares about a few thousand up or down? I just think that we all can get caught up trying to get the best deal, when getting the most enjoyment is the ultimate goal. This entire decision would be one from the heart anyway right?

Wow you guys are super optimistic compared to the guys @ Rennlist. We've been discussing values over there for some time now and the consensus on a high mileage '01 is in the high 60's to low 70's.
