EPL`s K16/16G Review

I installed Tony`s kit about 2 weeks ago an I had 3 problems--NONE of which were attributed to EPL.
prob#1 wastegates leaking and thanks to Sharkwerks, problem solved.
prob#2 threw code P0234--hose from frequency valve to wastegates were leaking at the tee behind the motor--new hoses--prob solved
prob#3 threw code P0234 (again) replaced boost frequency valve ($27)-
problem solved.
Now, this car drives like a bat out of hell!! Quick spoolup and great power while behaving just like stock around town and stop and go traffic. I had Proto 24/18G`s, but did not want to upgrade the fuel system to get to 700HP so this option for me was a no-brainer as both kits make simular power. It also seems to be faster than K16/24 cars that I drove. I already got the before Dyno #`s and I will get the new #`s and 60-130 times etc.
But first, like many of us that upgrade the power I need to get a new clutch. It slips just a little in the sweet spot of the torque in 3 gear and up. But for now this car is a total blast to drive!

Mike, that is sweet. I was chatting with Tony about this kit as well.

Did you install it yourself?

Very interested to see your new dyno #s and times.

Congrats!

Good to hear you got it going....
So do you think you had the mentioned problems while you were running on the k24/18Gs? If so maybe that is what caused some lag and or other problems...

Hey Marski, no I had not installed the G24/18`s as of yet. I had the turbos and EBC and 5bar ready to go but I wanted to keep mt HP at the 600 level so I sold that setup and went to the 16G setup, also with a 5bar fpr. BTW is your car still hibernating?

I see...

I always promote everyone to do a boost leak test at least once a year....

I agree Marek, I could not believe I had 3 separate problems and it never showed up with the stock boost. I guess the high boost creates more problems. I am only at 1.1 bar! what boost are you running and where if any were your boost leaks?

Wow

Did you install this kit yourself? If so how difficult would you say this would be for someone who has never done it before? Enjoy your new power.

Glad you are happy, that is all that matters, but your comments are deceiving...it sounded like you had the Proto turbos....installed and you compared the new turbos...Are you in marketing?

Sorry guys, I was not trying to "be deceiving". My intention was at some point to install the K24/18g but on my crappy 91 octane in CA I would be making about 600FWHP max. (without the Proto fuel upgrade) So I decided to go with this K16/16G because it is about the same power output. Now I did not go into this blindly, because this kit has been around for a while and even the master at Protomotive had tuning for this setup. This kit was supposed to be an upgrade from the 16/24 kit as the 16g are supposed to be more efficient. Bottom line.....I like the quick spool up and power.

Yes I installed it myself. On a scale of 1-10 I think it is a 7. I helps to have some mechanical experience, good tools, torque wrenches etc. Just take your time and have fun. You should download the Turbo manual so you can see specs for torque, removal sequence etc. I actually only had 2 parts left over where I had no idea where they went! just kidding

Gotta stick up for Mike here... I really don't think he would ever do that. He's a car nut like the rest of us Congrats on getting it done and doing the DIY!
