EVOMS Stage 4 GT vs Ruf 993 Turbo R
#16
Interesting post...as it definitely confirms, HP doesnt prove anything.
Bill, I'd love to see that car in action. Btw...have you run against a RUF 996 550RT?
I heard someone in here with their stage IV recently smoked a StageIV GT! I wont reveal the cars/owners as this will surface on it's own (FYI...it wasnt shank's IVGT).

EVOMS vs Ruf comparison
I certainly agree that Bill's 993 Ruf turbo was surprisingly quick. Just as he says, the cars were basically equal in 2nd through 4th rollons. I really was surprised and amazed at the Ruf tuning. I suspect that with more room the newer cars aerodynmics would play a roll but I would definitely say that Ruf downplays their power and that the cams they use provide a nice sweet spot in the ranges we ran. Bill's car is a very well set-up package.

Oh well....do let us know if you have a chance to run the RUF 550.

EVO vs Ruf
These are great cars and tuning them does not seem to be an exact science yet. Just have to keep tweeking and having fun!
The challenge is in developing the most balanced overall package for your use. I was favorably impressed with the Ruf car's overall balance/engineering and relialize that I'm not done optimizing my TT yet. I need something to keep my interest in the TT till the next car.

Bill this backs up what we experienced against a 993 with similar bhp to the turbo R (510bhp )
The R turbo was a bit quicker to 140mph, but nothing special, walking away not running, but above 145mph the aerodynamics of the 993 were really pulling it back and then the 996 shaped car would easily run away from the 993.
The turbo R package is a really amazing setup and i would love to see more pics of your turbo R
best wishes

On the freeway, that thing is pretty insane! Was it faster than my old Turbo, maybe not, but for a rated 490hp, it was very impressive. Put it this way, when my M5 gets to 125-130, he's probably at 180+... I can only imagine what Ruf-Racer's car is like!
Bill, are you going to the Concorso in August?

Hi Tyson. I remember that day!
At this time I can't make the Concorso. However, if that changes, I'll let you know!

Here's a picture of my car before the Ruf conversion. After the conversion, the car's over an inch lower. Otherwise it looks the same. This is beside the Salton Sea in Southern California, 235 feet below sea level.

I dont mean to sound redundant or butt into the arguement here, but horsepower is not all that matters at all. Torque is very important in a car's acceleration as well, as well as power to weight ratio and gearing.
Take a E55 AMG for example, it can keep up with a stock 996TT in a 1/4 mile with 469 HP weighing well over 4500 lbs, while the 996 has 415 bhp and weighs around 3600 lbs. They are trading off over 1000lbs for about 55 hp. The only thing that makes sense here is that the E55 makes 100 more lb/ft of torque than the 996TT and that is what keeps the tank up with the VW.
