996 Turbo Brake Information - DIY and Sorting truth from Fiction!

Does anyone on here know why Performance Friction don't offer their rotors for the 996TT? They have kits for the 996/GT2/GT3/997/Boxter, whats going on? Seems to me their floating rotors would be a viable option for the 996TT crowd too. A complete kit for the GT2/3 is a little over $1000, the 996 a little over $700, then replacement rotors are about $300/$200 respectively. Plus these are slotted rotors, I think what most of us actually want if upgrading, not "matching" cross-drilled to the rears. (Not knocking Brembo, I am sure they know very well what they are doing).

I think if PFC hasn't come through for the 996TT by the time I am through the new front rotors I just put on (only 2 track days so far, already signs of cracks appearing, 3 more track days next week...), I think I will likely try out Coleman Racing for the next set (2pc fixed).

When you make that upgrade, you are going to 350mm OEM GT3 rotors right? Is part of the upgrade offsetting the caliper? I am guessing you could use the PFC GT3 rotors right off the bat, should be a drop in replacement for the OEM's.

You can, but as mike mentions earlier in the thread it's expensive because you have to change uprights and all that stuff. Guys that are going to the 996 GT3/2 calipers are buying 997 TT stock 6 piston rotors which are a direct bolt on with no modifications. so you don't change anything hence the need for a hat that is Turbo offset.

Hello all!
I am a new member who is in need of brake info. I have a SCCA Camaro ITE car with Porsche 996tt brakes. I am considering upgrading to the GT3 6 pot brakes but want to know how much more room they take up in the wheel than a 996tt caliper that has been shimmed up to work with a GT3 rotor. I know a Camaro guy who shimmed up his Movit 996tt based kit to fit the Performance Friction Gt3 rotors and it fits in his wheels which are the same size as mine. He says the 6 pot caliper "sits down on the rotor more" and should not need more room in the wheel. I was wondering if this was true?
Also, I see there is mention of a UMW vendor that sells upgrades...I can't find them.....who are they?
Thanks,
Randy Mackintosh

I would pull the specs off the OEM 996TT wheel to see what clearance is required for the 6 piston GT3 caliper/350MM rotor. My guess is that anything less will be an issue. There is VERY MINIMAL clearance on an OEM 18inch porsche wheel, both at the face, and at the outter "hoop".

Search here or over on renntech.org...You'll need minimum of 18 inch wheels for sure though... Those monoblocks are HUGE and Bulky!

If I "did it all over agian" with the 996TT, here is what the choices would be, carved in stone 100%:
NO track use or very lite & occasional use: All OEM except fluid.
HARD, very experienced track use: GT3 front calipers and rotors, hands down THE choice. Pagid Yellow front and Black rear. Keep the rear stock re calipers and rotors!
Moderate track use: Keep what you have. For most, the OEM stuff is all you need.
Get cooling to the brakes, fresh good stuff for fluid and Pagid Yellows.
As Mike said this is great stuff. Thanks to C.O'B at www.Rennstore.com for all his help.
It saved me a bit of money and could save you a TON.
Why waste the $$$$ when you don't need to -

I don't like the pagid yellows. They are over-rated. The blacks are better and not too hard on the rotors. Going to try PFC 01 or 06 next though.
Rotor solutions are coming soon. Durable and cost effective.
