996 TT vs Big AMG

In the quarter mile the E55 is faster than the M5
From a rolling start, an M5 might be quicker due to better gearing
Tuned
An E55 is much quicker than an M5 mainly because you can tune an E55 a lot more. In the quarter mile or rolling starts the outcome is the same..

I am a little surprised that people actually think a M5 is quicker than an E55. I have seen a stock E55 run the quarter in 11.77. I have yet to see a stock M5 breaks into the 11s. If I am wrong please point me in the right direction...

But M5 takes over on twisties & that's why i choose modded 996TT for the perfect compromise betw. an AMG or M.

I thought that's only when the drag strip is super sticky (with chemical) and cool day. Otherwise, they both are pretty close. E55 is more torque down low so it better be faster from the stop. 5.5L supercharged for christ sake!

in my experience.....stock to stock
E55 is quicker in the 1/4 mile compared to M5's
M5 is a faster car from roll-ons.....especially after 100 MPH without a doubt
996TT won't run away from M5's at speeds/rolls like the video Divex posted......if anything, it'll be fairly close. The 996TT in that video def got the jumps....and if anything, looks like the M5 driver could use a lesson or two about anticipation (he looks like he steps on the gas after the 996TT gets into boost).
in any case.....i've ran a few stock 996TT's from rolls and I've pulled them quite handily whereas M5's from a roll put up a much better run....especially as speeds climb above triple digits

I didn't think much of AMG's until I drove a CL 65. All I can say is what a car. It may be a couple of ticks slower to 60, but after that watch out. Stock it has 612 HP and 738 lb-ft of torque at 1800 rpm!
Don't mess with me should be painted on the rear of that car.

Bad 996TT drivers. It takes skills to shift as consistently as SMG.

Of course it was in jest...as seen by my smileys.
All joking aside, I will say that a 996TT driver that can keep his shifts in the .20 range and under will do much better against a E60 M5 from a roll than one that can not. Is that better?

the AMG55's appealed to me because of the low end torque delivery of the blown engine ... if I were given a chance between a AMG63 and a AMG55 ... I'll go with a 55 ... otherwise, I'll go BMW V10 ... just my $0.02 ...
