Alignment after new wheels and tires??

I just put on some new wheels and tires, and the car just doesn't feel right. The tires seem OK, pressures are good, etc. and I don't get any vibration ... but the steering response is just weird. When I turn right it feels good, but very sketchy on left turns. It's hard to describe but it's almost like the alignment is out of whack ... but I don't see why new wheels and tires would require an alignment. Any ideas?

no, new wheels and tires would not affect alignment.
What tires and pressures? I might get your alignment
checked anyway... If you put the old wheels and tires
back on, does it feel OK again?

Are you using the same size wheels and tires?

I don't even know the stock wheel widths ... the new ones are 18x8.5 up front with 235s and the rears are 18x11.5 with 315s so at least the tires are slightly wider than stock.

Porsches are critical on the "N" rating of the tires. Did you purchase the correct "N" for that car? That could be your problem.

Check to see if the tires are mounted in the right direction. I had an NSX once whose front tires were mounted backwards. The car handled really poorly until I changed the tires.

I am about to switch my Gemballa Competition 18s, with the same size tires as yours, to HRE 542 19s. I do plan to have the car realigned.

BTW, I am in Dallas, too.

Well PS2s are not directional tires, so that's not it. They have a clearly marked inside and outside, but that's it.

I took the car to a new shop in my area that does a lot of race prep (for you local guys, they are almost always at MSR) and had them do an alignment just to get that out of the way.

It seems a litlte better but not much. We decided I would just put some miles on the tires and see what happens, because it's definitely not a balancing issue and the alignment is spot on.

Anyway, for you local guys check out Fifth Gear Motorsports on 407 in Lewisville, they always have a bunch of bad *** cars in the lot and the shop, and they do great work. Weird name for a shop that does so much work on Porsches, but they are great. They have a wicked GT3 race car in the lobby ...
