Need to Replace Clutch Slave Cylinder
I need to replace the clutch slave cylinder on a 2004 turbo X50. Any idea how difficult is to perform the installation? My dealer in South Florida quote me at $1900 including parts. Is this a fair price? Thanks

no that's not a fair price. the 996TT you can drop the motor W/O dropping the transmission. the PART is only $500.00 so you're not looking @ more than 5 hrs labor. just had mine done. get it done NOW, though.... you start GREASING up the clutch disk and indeed it will be a $4,000.00 job when you buy the new clutch and pressure plate to go with the slave cylinder. in my case I had the LWFW and the GT3RS clutch and pressure plate already done and in the midst of other servicing a few months later they noticed the slave-boot was "weeping" so we did the R&R immediately.

Or you could go with the GT2 conversion. Do a search and you'll see that there is more feel to the engagement - it's not for everyone.
If this is something you would consider, see if you can drive a GT2 and the clutch feel will be very similar.

I have to get the same part repaired, my friend at the dealership told me the last person he charged was around the same price as you stated...what did other people pay for this?

All I know is I replaced mine with a NEW one from Porsche when I did my clutch and lwfw, and I'll be damned if it didn't crap out after only a couple hundred miles. Best guess is it was bad out of the box and took a little while to show symptoms. NOT a job I am looking forward to doing again. Royal PITA! One arm around one side of the tranny, one arm up the other side....At least it is under warranty..

Yep, that is either a failing clutch slave or accumulator (or both). Best off replacing both. You can get to the accumulator without dropping the tranny, although it is not a simple task. The slave itself is a PITA to replace. It is on top of the tranny and difficult to reach. I'm not surprised to hear $1900.
