Blown 6 Intercooler install

Hi 6speeders, I'm in the process of installing new intercoolers for a 996TT bought straight from blown 6. However, I was looking at the driver's side intercooler and something didn't look right. One of the passages seemed welded and blocked. Is this normal? Also, the bottom fins were bent...does this affect efficiency?

The weld seam is where two separate cores were joined. IC cores are available in different dimensions and such seams are common, but moreso in the larger ICs. These are not that big so I am a little surprised that it took more than one core to make it. They may all be this way and if so, that's just the way they are made (look into the other one with a dental mirror to confirm). If there is no such seam in the other one, then I would attempt to return it for one made from a single core. The endplate dents will not effect cooling efficiency to any measurable degree, but if this is a brand new unit then shame on them for letting it leave the shop like that. Neither of these issues is a big deal really, and you will find they are a great improvement over stock. But if the one is sub-par compared to the other then I think it is reasonable to request a replacement.

Hi Roadsterdoc, forgot to mention that the other core does not have this issue of the passages being welded. Good thing I check the cores out before installing them....argh!

Looks like a combination of poor welding and a bashed IC. Wonder if they pressure test these before leaving the shop.

Ship the bad one back - that's clearly unacceptable whether it measurably affects anything or not.

I would still contact B6 and yell and scream. How they can ship a product in such condition blows my mind.

Same thing happened to me when I purchased them from RPM, terrible customer service at Blown 6 too, and very disappointed with the product. I think everyone who purchased these should check their IC's because I have a feeling they are all the same..... Tim also pointed out to me that it was one row shy of the EVO IC which had one more row. I sent mine back and had to fight like crazy for them to take the return as they did not want to.

I just asked them for a complete refund and they flat out refused though they admitted fault for the ICs sent in that condition....
