Just installed a new 997 shifter

Was going to go with a B&M for my 996, but after reading a couple threads on Renn, I decided to try the new 997 shifter.

Wow. Super tight and so smooth as well as a shorter throw. Install was a no brainer as it is a factory piece. And a heckuva deal from Suncoast to boot!

Huge difference from the 996 shifter, like night and day.

For anyone else interested in doing this, I have a couple of really low mileage shift tower assemblies from stock 997s I am selling. Please PM me about them if interested.

This shifter comes stock in all the current cars (base Boxster all the way to the GT2), and will fit all 986's and 996's.

997 Shift Console Upgrade $169.95

Will the EVOMS billet shift link made for the 996TT linkage fit this set-up?

Does in have the plastic piece (like the 996tt) that can break easily?

Marty-
I don't know which plastic piece tends to break, but I can say that when comparing them side by side, there is no doubt the new one is considerably beefier and has less plastic in it.

It is kinda' tough to describe how it feels, but think smooth, tight, crisp and clean. The old one just felt very sloppy, loose and notchy in comparison. The throw is noticeably shorter as well.

Maybe go test drive a 997 and see what you think...

Is this it?

The 997 GT3 shifter is the same as the 987 Boxster, Caymen, 997 Carerra, and the 997 Turbo.

Standard Shifter: 997-424-010-00 About $205.00

Short Throw Shifter: 997-424-983-00 About $490.00

The 996 and 986 model vehicles are different. However, you can install the "new style" shifters to the 996 and 986 cars. Listed above and preciously stated.

If it is the same, why is Suncoast shifter less money? Is it a true OEM part?
