6 speed vs tiptronic
#46
My Tip was built after tearing it apart with a evt700 kit on board for 25k miles.. Slight leak lead to a motor drop, and that is when Renntech rebuilt and added some clutch packs. Since then I have only added more boost and continue to BEAT the car and it does a really good job putting power down whenever, easily and more usable. Also an upgraded torque converter was a good choice. After 600whp even in a manual car with a heavy clutch can not necessarily be comfortable and easy to drive, lots of bucking, hard clutch.
They are both wins!

Is it possible to use a 997.1 ECU on a 996? My thoughts behind it being you could then use the 997 TCU. I believe a 997 Tip will bolt right up to a 996 but the TCU won't work with a 996 ECU? Not an expert on this just brain storming on a way to get my Tip a stronger!

You dont need to use the 997 TCU ( ecu) as the standard 996tt one can be re-programmed to give different shift maps, removal of brake peddle power kill and the valve operation can be greatly increased giving very much and quite frankly shockingly fast shifts.
Mines a built box, my next upgrade will most likely be an 800bhp upgrade. I have 650 now. Car does 60-130 on stock fuel in 7.2 seconds and 0-100 in 6.5 seconds. I weight in a 303 lbs so no light weight.
Ken has seen faster times on my car but its my times that I'm interested in.
I ran 1.5 bar boost for those times , but Tod has supplied the tune so that will take more. I will be doing a Brunters test track session at some point again running 1.55/1,6 and see what we get.
again absolutely and truthfully I never use anything else but stock fuel.

Yeah, That is what Neil Switzer told me! He said the TCU is the issue with the 996! Besides the TCU they are about the same inside correct? The housings are identical IIRC!

i would consider # 13 on a list of 60+ drag times records to be upper echelons. wouldnt you?

Don't they offer Tip builds?

HOWEVER......
The MKB built box is capable of 1300nm torque and over 1000bhp.
ken's car is being built atm with a built motor and MKB built tip and he is going for over and well over 1000bhp.
These built tips are just crazy on WOT.
Standing starts are done my slamming the brake peddle to the floor with the throttle fully depressed. The car is poised to be fired like a gun. Stall speed 3k so the car sits stationary at 3k and nearly full turbo boost pressure. Take your foot off the brake and bang full boost ideal rev range and off you go. You quite literally "Launch" off the line.
Forget standard tip boxes, built one with real power are a different animal all together.
Don't forget , once out of 2nd gear the Torque converter is locked, so there is no slippage like on old slush boxes.

As I said before, MKB are a racing company in Germany do some good **** . The standard 996tt Tip box internals are identical to the 997 tip internals which are just not up to big power.

It might just be a cost you have to pay to have something extra special.

Kinda what I am thinking! Although I wonder if any MB tuners are working these things over here in the states and what they charge!

That was achieved with pump gas? What was your boost level on pump gas?
Sorry just saw that you say boost was 1.5 on PUMP GAS ? WOW you are very brave.
Todd K has never said to run 1.5 bar on pump gas.

Do you still have your 7.2 sec 60-130 graph I would like too see it.

The k1639 turbos with Markski's iC work very well and we got good results.
Some where in the pages of history on 6speed Ken posted all the logs and PBox data for the laps we did at Bruntingthorpe circuit.
He has had my car at Brunters running 1.6 bar and no issues with the logs.
The runs I did were laps consistently hitting 197mph lap after lap with good logs. My final run of 200.11 was alos a good log. Perhaps with even better IC's we wouldn't have pulled a few deg timing and might have had even better results.
Ken has now move on and has developed a K1639 package with even better times and results.
My car has,
Markskie's Large bore inlet system, 60lb injectors, IC's, turbo piping.
Ken's K1639 turbos.
Parr dV's
K&N filter
997 Coil Packs
GT3 engine mounts
Todd tune( bespoke for Ken and his new turbos)
Miltek 100 cell m/sport exhaust.
EBC
MKB built box
He has posted all the data and although some timing was pulled, after a 50 minute test session hitting 197 on the back straight it was quite good.
I believe with even bigger IC's ( and other stuff)Ken has managed to really improve on my car with his new kits.
PS I belive 98 Ron over here is the same as your 94 gas?
