I have no personal experience with the factory ceramic brakes, but I have heard widely divergent opinions from those who have used them. I know of many who were VERY unhappy with the ceramic brakes for a variety of reasons, and took them off. Others swear by them. Like you, I have 18in wheels, and I elected to go with Brembo's 14in / 380 mm kit. They definitely grip better than the stock brakes. Call Matt at Meridian: (310) 475-2788.

i hear/read the "stop-techs" are the best....suppossedly even better than the brembo gt's (or whatever that top-line brembo is called) and i believe cheaper too. it seems brembo has the biggest name, but other's are just as good, if not better.
if you are going to track the car (as your choice in 18" wheels, roll bar and gt3 seats do suggest), everyone on the board will tell you the same as I: stay away from the PCCB ceramic brakes. for the street they are fine, but heat up too much for the track and are FAR too expensive to be replacing on a regular basis like that!
good luck, have fun!

Go to for sale section, MSINDI has a set of awesome Brembo's for sale, you may need 19's though.

PCCB advantage is in weight reduction, not in stopping distance. Durability is a liability when it comes to tracking. Stock brakes are excellent, but on a heavy TT with bhp upgrades, the brakes can overheat and not work as well. So here is one simple formula for dealing with heat and a better brake WITHOUT switching away from stock 18" wheels. (1)GT-2 air ducts to front and rear brakes (2) braided cables with super blue or better brake fluid changed before each event (3) suitable brake pad for your type of driving (Padget blue, yellow, or orange) just for the track and switch back to stock for street ** (4) 14" aluminum hat floating race front rotors from Perfectpower, which use stock calipers. (5) After all that, try racing slicks or a better DOT tire like Michelin Pilot Cup Sports.

The factory steel brakes measure up at:
Front - 13 inches (330 mm)
Rear - 13 inches (330 mm)

With a braking force equal to 1680 HP.

There is three aftermarket Brembo upgrades for a 996TT:

Brembo GT (Gran Turismo) 4-piston:
Front and Rear

Front - 14 inches (355 mm)
Rear - 14 inches (355 mm)

Brembo GT (Gran Turismo) 8-piston:

Requires 19" wheels or custom 18's, but don't quote me on the custom 18", I've yet to see it happen. IIRC KPV is working on it with Fikse.

Front - 15 inches (380 mm)
Rear - Same as above.

Brembo GTR:

A.W.E. sells this kit and Sharkster has them on his car.

Front - 15 inches (380 mm)
Rear - 13 inches (328 mm)

For the $$ go with Stop Tech 350mm kit front/322mm rear upgrade, best bang for the buck. As good as Brembo.

Thanks guys for the great input. The more I hear, it seems that the PCCB's are having problems on the track with heat and cracking. I did change air ducts (4), went to braided cables and racing fluid. I would like to learn more about the 14" aluminum hat floating race rotors from Perfectpower, and also the "stop-techs". Any direction?

call Sol at Perfectpower (board sponsor at right). Also check out the recent thread so you know what / who you are dealing with (great guy and great shop). Never mind that the rotors are drop dead gorgeous, cooler at track temps than the stock rear rotors, and are lighter than the stock rotors. IMHO best brake upgrade for the $. Love them

Mowblowgo,
I have the Brembo GT setup. The stopping power is amazing. Much better that stock. Arling has the GTR setup. That is truly an awesome setup. I believe he is selling his. By the way, I also have black 543's. After several sets of wheels, I love them. I had my calipers painted yellow. Looks good with the black wheels.

How about a set of GTII calipers with 14 inch rotors that WILL fit a standard TT? I think the GTII brakes have proven their worth and with steel rotors can prove their longevity. Anyone interested?

dbelleperc,

do you have the braking force numbers for the various brembo variants for comparison?

Sorry I don't have the numbers. But with the same master cylinder and vacuum brake booster the force should be the same.

The brakes will not help you stop any quicker over the stock brakes because of the ABS kicking in, but on a track or very aggressive driving you will still have a hard pedal over and over again.

We sell the full line of Gran Turismo kits from Brembo as well. Let me quote my price, too.
