key barrel removal..help!

Guys-

Anyone ever removed the key barrel from the ignition? I am trying to replace mine and got the updated switch that does not have the plastic back piece, but for the life of me cannot remove the key barrel out of the old one.

The only thing I have found says the hole should be at the 7 o'clock position, stick a paperclip in it and the whole thing falls out into your hand. Unfortunately that is friggin' impossible as that "hole" is part of the mechanism and turns with the key. Does not/will not/never has been at 7 o'freakinclock. Frustrated? You bet!

Any ideas?

Nevermind, got it. after trying some #8 wire, some #19 wire [offshore fishing leaders], some Brightwire and finally a piece of RG-6 with the key dissasembled.....the damn thing came out.

What a PITA!
