driving a tiptronic

Tom,
I'm not trying to argue with you and am just trying to understand. What are the reasons that Tip cannot make a good track car? It picks up fast, shift fast; besides it is heavier, they are basically the same car. The only disadvantage is the acceleration between 130-top; but you couldn't drive that fast on most tracks anyway. So... why?
Thanks.

at the track u can leave it in A and play with the accelerator while braking and leave the tip do the job for u .. u dont have even to look inside to check the car in which gear ... ari i used to rise the boost upto 1 bar while rolling at low rpm .. no need to be full stop .. u have to do it right, easy on the break while moving ..

the cars will not let you coming from very high speed to 2 gear corners downshift when you want and sometimes dont hold to redline. also on long off camber fast sweepers the tranny will shift when you dont want it tool.
this is only my opinion based on real track experiences with the tips at the track and I drive them all the time and they cannot turn the same time at Sebring as the manuel can, just dont have the precision of heel toe shifting and rev matching.
now granted it is the difference between 1-3mph of corner exit speed but that is multiplied after corners before long straights. the overall lap times still would be very similar.
also I guess I feel I have more control of the engine, rpms, turbo boost etc, with a stick than manuel.
Nothing personal just my experience as well as many others I drive with at the track many with turbo tips.
dont get me wrong two of the guys with turbo tips are the fastest at the track so believe me with the appropriate skill it is still doable but maybe not for me.

One point tthat Tom had highlighted about track driving (or even spirited street driving) is that is a real pain is if you leave it in auto and are going around a long sweeper, the darn tranny changes gear mid corner and that can be a real pain and unbalance the car.
Having said that for moderate skill levels it can be great as you can concentrate on driving line and braking points without worrying about gear changes.

I'm here dude, signing in from sunny South France, the tippy can haul *** on track, but you really need to put track time in to achieve the best from the tippy. What I tend to do is run in auto and when I know certain sections on (most tracks) needs to deliver smooth drive out I need to overide it. The secret is track time and you can make it work, did you guys not recently see the SPA video that was posted. Sure Jim will agree.

A couple of questions for you STEVO... Do you shift to M when you override it or leave it in D? How high of RPM do you keep your car at?
Thanks
