I) Last car before 996TT & II) Any regrets on cars you've passed on
#16
They are boats, interior bland for the $$, seating position weird!

I had an E39 M5... I knew I'd regret it so I kept it!
Regrets? YES. I should have bought Greyghost's (Britt) 2004 996 with the IA mods... I STILL regret that. He was selling and I just wasn't yet there on the 'ready to go' scale....

What did you have before getting your 996TT? Do you miss it?
I had a 1997 Supra TT, BPU-type mods, it was putting down low 400's. On boost it was about the same as my 996TT. Of course, by the time it got boost the 996 was already 2 cars ahead on the freeway. Let's not even talk about street performance.
So no, don't miss it at all. But it was extremely reliable over the 7 years I owned it, and I basically drove it for free. I miss that much.
Somewhat related, are there any cars you passed on that you regret?
Almost bought a 993TT recently (I like it much more than the 996TT) but my brother has one so there's no sense in getting two of the same car.
I agree with what others have said, the E39 M5 is a great daily driver. We have one in the family - can you say 1st gear burnouts all day long? The E60, not so much. Minus well throw your wallet in the fire, it burns gas that fast.

The most regret I have is passing on a 993TT also, but I had heard too many maintenance nightmare stories ...

I must admit, if I didn't have so many projects going on I would've probably switched my 996 for a 993 by now. They drive, look, and sound great....what's not to like...

My car experiences go like this : I had an Sl500 MY2005 , perfect car for luxury and looks but a little underpowered ( I got it right after an E46 M3) , I bought as a toy a 360 Modena MY2000 that was a piece of **** sold by the worst dealer ever here in San Diego CA. The car costed me 30,000 in a period of 4 months. I traded that one in for a 2004 Gallardo which was upgraded wth straight pipes and Tubi exhaust. That was the best sounding car ever. I sold that car to an NFL superstar and was at a good position to buy the Murcie. That is a perfect EXOTIC car , not as high tech as the Gallardo but the pure Italian Breed. Power is enormous which shines after 140MPH , before that anyone thinks they can beat a murcie but most of the owners are affraid to push the car to its limits.
That car had ZERO serious problems only the regular discharged battery from lack of use , but beware this is a car that can bring you a big repair bill if anything goes wrong. It might feel reliable but I always knew on the back ofmy head that it wasnt.
I have the 996TT now and It feels great is the missing link between the SL500 and the gallardo , lots of power and very comfy. I will mod this car a little but I feel that it has enough power to have fun and its not easy to take it to its limits. Exhaust sound is very quiet but it will never be like a Ferrari or Lambo so why bother.

Microboby, where are you located in San Diego? I would love to come check out some of those cars someday...I don't have a 996TT (yet) but the car I miss everyday is my modded M5 (best car ever for me so far..)

$30K of repairs in 4 months ... yikes!
$30K of repairs in 4 months ... yikes! Do you think you got a bad one or did random unpredictable stuff just happen. This has been my biggest fear with getting a Ferrari ... the unpredictable things that happen even with a good car that has passed a stringent PPI.

I think a got a bad one but probably the dealer also knew about it and played it fool.
It was my first Ferrari and I was so excited that I just could not wait to get it. I paid $126 plus Tax for It and I thought it was good. If you buy one only buy a Ferrari Car from the Ferrari Dealer that can stand behind the car if anything happens. Two weeks after I traded in the car for the Lambo the Ferrari engine blew on the dealer hands , they called me to see what could I do but It was not my problem anymore.
Ferrari labor is $150 + x Hour and they take long to fix anything , the day I decided to trade for the lambo the Ferrari Chief Tech told me that If I wanted something reliable I should buy the Gallardo. Two days after I was picking mine

You guys that sold cars to get cars hopefully have learned a lesson. Previous car was a 968 Cab, which I still own. If I had it to do over, I would have bought a GT2 and found a way to put the turbo's back seats in there for my kids.

The Turbo actually replaced 2 cars, a 1998 BMW 540i and a 2000 Magnetic Red Corvette convertible. After about a year and a half, I was missing not having a convertible so I bought a 1997 30th Ann Camaro convertible with 132k miles....which is up to 160k miles 20 months later......a mile-eating machine.
Curious reading the thread and seeing so many admirers of M-cars. I'm thinking about replacing the Camaro with a 2004 E46 M3 (or a VW EOS) this Winter. Are M3s that good?
