993TT - Thoughts
I think I made the right choice in getting my 996TT, but every once in a while I have thoughts of getting 993TT. What do you guys think of the 993TT in general? Would you be willing to give up your 996TTs for one? - why/why not?

I wrather own my 996tt after driving a modified 993. To me the interior is a little dated, and I felt the gearing was to short for the power. I do love the way it looks, and it handles amazing, but I drive my 996tt everyday and would not trade it for a 993tt at this point.

I've always enjoyed riding in my friends' 993TT and 964 Turbo, but when it came down to purchasing, my gut said to go with the 996TT instead. This may not be logical, but to me the earlier Turbos just felt a little more fragile.
It also seems that the 993TT is more popular than the 996TT mostly within the "car" community. Outside of the car community, I think most prefer the newer lines of the 996TT or 997TT.

Drove a couple of them, really they just seemed like a less capable 996TT, less grunt, less grip, clunky pedals, disco-era interior, inefficient cooling system, less upward potential. And it doesn't drive like an old school Turbo either, I'd get a 964 3.6T WAY before a 993TT.
The ONLY two reasons it retains value better is:
1. Sheer production numbers - 1300 vs 8000 996TTs (compare against the 400 or so 964 3.6Ts for real rarity)
2. There's the legion of inefficient-cooling worshippers who insist Porsche sold their soul in 1999 and won't have anything newer
Nice car, just caught between the classic Turbos and the modern ones.

993tt is probably the nicest looking p car ever. I was faced with the 3tt or 6tt dilema last year. Opted for the 6 after much deliberation. It's just a more modern car. Water cooling is miles ahead of air for countless reasons.
The 6 is a tough car to beat.

Wow,tuff decision, I got both, whenever I want to kick *** at the street or strip I'll take my small tank, then there are times for long powerful highway drives, then is time for larger tank.

I have a 996TT modded to 650 to 700 HP with an EVOMS GT700 kit, and a 993TT modded to 650 range with a Protosport-built Protomotive 3.8L Mahle PC/GT2 Evo cam/twin-plug conversion, and the 993TT is easily my favorite car. If you can add a 993TT to the stable-do it, if you can have only one 911 Turbo, I would choose the 993TT over the 996TT.

I used to be a 993 guy through and through, but I have now moved on. Plus, I like the idea of my tip gearbox in a turbo

An interesting and pretty logical argument. The hype has really helped them keep their value. I for one prefer driving my 996 everyday, but do still keep a NA 993 for the looks and whenever I feel nostalgic.
