NY,PA,NJ,CT area dyno and 1/4 mile day?
#32
I'm agreed on the track rental.
I still want to get some dyno time in though. 1/4 will show off the best drivers, but dyno will show off the best cars. (It'd be interesting to see the correlation)
I think if it's 15 cars or under, we can pull it off (long but fun day). If not, it'll need to be a 2 day or we'll need to have multiple dyno locations (all running the same dyno, similarly calibrated of course) converge on the one track..

How about a track rental, with 1 driver?

Track rental is the way to go - Etown night sessions would be brutal. Do they make 4wd portable dynojets? I know I have seen the 2wd versions.
If it can be arranged to have the dyno at the track we call people when its their time to dyno.

1/4 mile driver and Dyno same day onsite would be great
I think a 1/4 mile driver would be great with one little issue. I never really launch my car and im still trying to learn the best method for 1/4 mile runs. I will probably never really drive the car the way that they do in the car tuner mags since getting an extra 1/2 second is not worth going home with a broken car to me or even the chance of that happening.
Maybe we can do 2 types of runs one for those who don't have a problem with Road and track type launch of their car and then another for people who want an easier type of launch.
What I mean is that in my Audi S4 some people drop the clutch at high rpms and run the 1/4 and others will feather the clutch at a lower rpm and run their times. Since im a noob to my 996tt I don't know if there is two ways to launch this car and still get decent times.
Open for comments and suggestions.

+1.... I like the 60-130 times....perhaps it should be 60 to 150..

rc5204,
My best times have always been with a softer, moderate launch and minimal wheel spin. Hard launches result in too much wheel spin and although they sound and feel fast when you are doing them, they are in fact slower. The above is indicative of my launches on street tires. Drag radials may be different. The point I am making is there is no need to abuse the car in order to obtain a good time.
