CITY LIFE WITH 996t?

i live in chicago and conduct business in the city, lots of stop and go traffic. i am considering a 02-04 996t for a dd. the hard part is tip of 6sp. i will need to talk on the cell and maybe write some things down so the 6sp is a problem, i have also heard that the tip on a 996t is 'stupid' and no where near as fun as 6sp.

anyone use it for city streets/work?

doesnt sound like an enjoyable use of a TT especially if it forces you to get a tip, my 2 cents.
get and M5 or something like that, I think you will be uncomfortable and stressed out.

ive been working hard you can say, and would want something as a self given gift

the turbo has always been my love, m5s are very nice and a beast. if i would drive around clients that would be one thing, but im going from home to work to meet with clients to jobsite(s) maybe.....

youre saying if i DO get a 996turbo and its a tip its a waste?

QUICK offtopic question, the car itself isnt a huge attention getter correct? i wouldnt want people always staring or egging on a race...

Just my little 2cents...
for those that have a gaytronic, we never complained about the car is not fun to drive; in fact, most of us love it. Somehow, you'd only see the 6speeders have opinions on Tips; and the funny thing is... most of them might have driven one before, but never own one. I have been driving a 6speed all my life, but when I got in my Tip TT, I don't care if it is a Tip or 6speed; it's just purely joyful.

I have an 07 M5 and having to drive it around in LA city traffic SUCKS! I do not recommend an M5 or anything with SMG for city driving. It is jerky and not very responsive in stop and go. On a little more open road it is incredible! Seriously the V10 is wicked. I average 8.3 miles per gallon in the city by the way. 18.5 gallon tank and I get about a 155 miles out of it. Not very GREEN to say the least! PS. IMO No Tip 6spd only. It's a Porsche! Again, just my opinion.

where is the city you palnning to do this?
I had a handful of exotic cars including a Lambo and I managed.
You make it sound like its a tracker wiht a manual gear box....
Would it be any different if you got a M5 manual? I doubt it.
The car is not low to the ground... as long as you dont mind driving a 6speed then I dont see any problems....

im in construction, awd is nice, i go from sheridan wilmette and up to glencoe and hp.... sometimes in northbrook, glenview, schaumburg area, wrigleyville, some city....

i sometimes have to be on the cell for a while, or write things down. i just dont want to get a tip then hear 'shoulda got a 6spd' comment or whatever. or regret not getting one...future investments should offer me the opportunity to purchase another such vehicle, this time in 6sp....or should i get it this time, i dunno.....

GEt an Iphone and a wireless headset hehe
as far as the tip vs 6 speed... I actually dont think you should worry... If you feel comfortable in a tip get a tip.... dotn worry about what others say. Go to a dealer and drive both cars.... 6spd and a tip...

thanks everyone for the kind words...its mainly because of if i get tip i may like it for a month and then wish i had gotten a 6speed. and vice versa...

i have a bluetooth for 1 phone, i have a business and a 'personal' phone...2 bluetooths and i will look like a cyborg

either way im pretty much set on obtaining a 996t, now the hard part is finding the one I want.

is there a paddle shift option of some sort?

FVD makes paddle shift steering wheels, but it's not cheap.
