Braking better

Braking better
Just thought I'd share a little on my last (small in general terms) mod to the car.
I did my first track event back in March and had two major complaints leaving it, greasy tyres after about 5-6 laps (TWS, quite high speed and heavy braking), and spongy brakes after even less laps.. The brakes I could cool off for a lap and then get on them again.. My setup fairly well explained it, Pirelli Asymetrico street tyres, running a little hot, and stock brakes on unknown fluid..
Well, I just did my second track weekend and what a difference...
Toyo R888's, enough said, great grip and consistancy.
I also installed AP Braided steel brake lines, flushed fluid with Motol RBF 600 and tried out EBC Yellowstuff pads. Brakes were great all weekend, never mushy and solid bite. Drove to and from the track on the same setup and very streetable also.
The AP brake lines are a breeze to install, just need line wrenchs (10 and 11mm). Fluid was easy with a Motiv Power Bleeder (and 4 bottles of Motol RBF), pads again easy, bedding no biggie.
Though pics don't tell much, here are a couple after all on the car..

Awesome Adam! Glad your happy. Just to clarify to not confuse brand names... these are AGENCY POWER brake lines as seen here - http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/b...=38&class_8=38
Those tires are awesome. You need GT3 sway bars and Agency Power sway bar links, then the sticky's will truly work well! Go over to Roadsters house and steal a turbo kit too

Does anyone know the weight difference between H&R and GT3 sway bars? Dan, you have them, that info on your website would be useful!
By car is a pig already with the previous owners taste in sound (custom sub box and upgraded speakers and amps all over)...

Not much, a couple lbs give or take. Remember the GT3 hollow is made for a narrow body car. Get something with the correct geometry for a wide body car. If you want a proper wide body hollow rear sway GMG makes one but its a bit more pricey.

Thanks for the write up bud.
It would have been a great review on the brake lines if you would have done fluid and pads and then give it a shot at the track...then go back and do brake lines.
I have pagid yellows 29 all around and Castrol SRF fluid and i get 0 mushy brake pedal. And i drive really, really hard. 140 mph going into turn 2 at laguna seca...138 mph going into turn 1 at thunderhill (this is all with 300 rated falken tires).. hmm i think stock porsche brake lines are good. What we need is bigger brake ducks.

boss ,how are those break pads for street use ? are they crappy until they warm up? im looking to slightly better my breaking also untill i go with a BBK . i dont like the pedal feel from my car and alsothey seem to lack that bite if you what i mean....
and one more thing my abs is very sensetive , if im over gravel or go over slight bump while breaking i can feel it kick in. is that normal ??
my m3 had big stoptechs on it, and they kill the stock 996tt breaks.

Unv, i know the question is not regarded towards me BUT i'll say paigd yellows are awesome. They have goood brakeing when cold. Once up to temp people who ride in my car while when i go to mtn runs say the brakes brake their necks and they feel like they are being launch out of their seat. Do fluid and pads and you will see a world of diffs. I run pagid's i did orange and they were great but not that initial bite i wanted for my style of brakeing- so i went to the 29s yellow. The stock calipers are good with good pads. Stock pads are a joke. I keep the yellows all the time, the car is my DD.... i don't mind the brake squeak- they do squeak quite a bit.

I would love to compare Pagid Yellow vs these EBCs, hoping that will happen at the track with a similar car. These EBC's are fine for the street but heavier on dust. One thing is nice, pretty much zero squeal. I will try Pagids when these need replacing if I don't get another comparison before.
By the way f1Crazy! I am with you and the tifosi, I have been a Ferrari fan ever since il Leone was at the wheel. I want Massa to get the crown this year to stick it to his critics (though his wet performance at Silverstone was abysmal), but I'd be happy with Kimi getting a second title..

I am at the track tomorrow and one of the Porsche guys had ran these and had issues, I will talk to him tomorrow and give you feedback. It's not the first time I have heard bad results from these pads.

Pad information here, note that they state they are a new formulation, maybe they have improved things?
I did 750 miles on them (about 1/2 too and from the track). My biggest concern about them was possible damage to rotors and they look/feel about the same before/after too me.
