Interesting V1 Concealed Display in 996TT

We recently did this and I had not seen a V1 display mounted like this in a 996TT so I figured I would share this for anyone looking for another place to mount a V1 display

clean install, although not an ideal location for easy and quick line of site.

Does anyone have knowledge of a heads-up display system that would work in our cars? I've seen no mention of it in any threads I have read thus far. It would be pretty neat to see speed, RPM, AFR, boost, most recent lap time, etc. at any point on the track (or street) without looking down.

Nice job! It looks very clean and professional. I'm looking to do the same thing, now I know where I want to put it. Thanks.

Did the exact same install. I agree with Oak the location isn't great. Although I react to the sound instantly, then look down for the arrows.

I bought a spare batwing to do it to, so I can always go back if a better place pops up!

BTW, I took a V1 remote display, removed the circuit board/display from the case, and just routed out the batwing to accept it. The whole thing is less than 1 cm deep.

Is yours flush mounted? If so - have a picture?

I currently have my V1 remote mounted like Chris above. Preiously, I had it centered on the steering collumn. I moved it to the center console in order to make room for a sequential shift light, as pictured below.

I find it a little harder to monitor in the new location, but the audio alert is the same and that is what you typically respond to when the warning is triggered, so I do not feel any delay in response. It does seem to take a little longer to determine what direction the radar is coming from vs. the centered steering location, which provides very quick feedback. I think these are the two best locations to choose from...

You have quite a few miles on that 996 there John. Glad to see a car like that being driven.

Yea and that picture was taken last year - well into the 80's now...

As a side note, I actually put 200,000 miles on a new 1984 3.2 carrera in 5 years.

It's a truly great product and blends in the car very well. I tried a few others and although they all worked well, they looked out of place. This piece follows the lines of the interior extremely well and the location is perfect, too.

John, did you get the flat one or the curved? How hard was the install? Thanks

Edwin

In the audi market there was a guy would gut the remote display and put it behind tinted plex in the steering column. Check out these photos:

Maybe we could get them to put together a batch for 996s.

Combined with a mute button run to the door handle, this was very James Bond.

I have this in my S4 and love it. My mute button is on the back of the high beam stalk to the left of the steering wheel. Something like this for the 996 would be great!
