The best wheels?

Before you spend your money, make sure that the wider tires and GT2 wheels are going to fit without rubbing. You may have to change your wheel well liner for the GT2 liner. My stock 295/30/18 rears sometimes rub a little. I know because I found an abrasion area on the wheel liners on both sides.

The main difference is that GT2 offest wheels are 1/2" wider front (8.5") and 1/2 to 1" wider in the rear (12"). If you are paying big money for new wheels they better be as wide as will fit.
They'll fit fine. You may need to roll the rear fenders. Either professionally, or with a 2lb mallet (like I did).

If you go with new wheels make sure you get the "GT2" fitment wheels. They are usually marginally wider and fit fine once you roll the rear fenders like the factory GT2 cars come.
I use and recommend Champions. GREAT lightweight wheels.
When going 19s consider 30 series rear sidewalls and compensate on the fronts by going a bit wider (245s?). You will get a bit more rim protection due to the slightly taller sidewalls and slightly taller gearing which never hurts in 1st and 2nd on these cars.

ssmugen was refering to specific sizes of 245/40/19 325/30/19 vs the popular 235/35/19 315/25/19 setup....
Rolling diameters on 245/40/19 + 325/30/19 is .04 difference; the problem is getting them to fit.
235/35/19 + 315/25/19 has a difference of .27.
I highly doubt a 245/40/19 will fit without major rubbing issues. I run a 245/35/19.

Thanks everyone for your help. I will probably do a coil over set up at the same time. will this make a difference on the wheel size? Are spacers used for cosmetic purposes only?

Bingo! thanks for playing.

Spacers are used to do exactly that. Space your wheels out a bit more.
IE I can fit 15mm spacers rear and 7mm front with my 8.5" / 11.5" champions and 235/315s (the usual setup). IMO the 25 aspect tire leaves your rims very exposed to damage.
I also run a 255/35 18 on stock 8.5" GT2 spec wheels with no problems. You can usually fix front clearance issues with a tad more camber. These cars are very easy on their front tires anyways. You get 2:1 wear Rear /Front with the rears lasting half or less than the fronts.
Again this is all personal opinion. There are people running 265/335s with minimal rubbing on this board. Ask Sharky. It can be done.

821 Posts and your answer is HRE? You got to be kidding me....
HRE AND BBS don't even compare, although HRE are better for "show" and "bling".
BBS also makes all of the wheels for Porsche.

IMO, its gotta be a fully forged wheel.
Champion wheels are a once piece 8000 ton forged pressed wheel. That means they light and extremely durable. Only a handful of factories can produce wheels in this fashion, and most are in Japan. They are $$$, but you get what you pay for.
I have gone through 2 sets of HREs on my M3 and hated them. IMO, Champion, NEEZ, BBS and OZ make the best wheels on the market.

In kinda late, but I'd love to answer any questions you may have.
From a quality and heritage standpoint alone you won't do better than BBS or OZ, and we are the country's largest distributor of both. We also carry Volk.
Please give me a call.
