advice for 6speed tranny rebuild for 700+ hp
It looks like the dreaded 2nd gear popout issue is back for my car (it was repaired about 18 months ago / 10k miles ago by a reputable source). Maybe me getting to know this car I did some damage to the 2nd gear syncro. Anyway...
I was already getting close to deciding on a 650-700+ hp package in the coming months when this started happening recently.
What have some you 650/700hp guys done to your trannies? Stock rebuild? Steel syncros? Kryogenic process? Taller 1st and 2nd gear ratios?
I am also not looking to break the bank TOO bad here guys.
thanks in advance

I looked into it... unless your willing to spend 12k for a compete build wiht steel syncros on 1 and 2 forget about it.... just replace what need to be replaced and call it a day...
If yo look hard enough you can find someone to do it cheap... maybe a P car mechanic after hours...

A veteran Porsche tech told me today that all it takes is 1 bad shift to screw up the syncro(s) and then you are right back to fixing it again. ?
I was quoted 4500 for just parts today to redo 1st/2nd gear and rebuild back to stock. Damn.....

depending on what you need to do but I think that's hi assuming you have jsut a 2nd gear syncros issue... The syncros are something like $180 each...

Read the second gear pop-out sticky, much is inside of that thread.
Yes steel synchros (3-5),
New 1st and 2nd is SUPER PRICEY Porsche motorsports parts.
talk to Dr Tom Kerr also, he is a transmission guru thru experience

depends on what you want to do with the car? drag racing street or track?
I added the cooler for the track and need it!! as ard pointed out.
upgraded the 3-6 syncros but 1 and 2 are very expensive and I dont really use those gears.
looked into different R+P opinions but they looked too weak for that kind of power.
the gearing again is track specific.
one wrong missed shift and any tranny is done. also heel toe rev matching is important.
I upgraded to the Guard LSD and also a stronger billet tranny cover, both great upgrades.
I think MARKSKI's advise may be the best.

$4500 in parts sounds high. What does it include?

it is the side of the tranny case and adds strength to the case and prevents the R+P gear moving, which to some degee you can see happen when you take these apart.
