Need new rotors, what options do I have?

I'm looking for some front rotors that fit the standard Turbo calipers and would last longer than the stock ones. I prefer slotted, as I do track the car quite a bit. Weight savings isn't that important, but would be a plus. I'm on a tight budget, so nothing that is too pricey.

Thanks,
Chasen

Those look very nice! will those work with the stock TT brakes, or only the Carrera brakes, or is there no difference?

yea, I was looking at the PFC's also, but they only work with PFC pads...I'm running Pagids. Don't know why they don't work.

They're alos 2x the price of DeMan's rotors...

Arent the PFC's only $370? Sucks that PFC rotors wont work with Pagid pads. Definitely call Rick Deman. Soon as mine crack "fully" i'll be running his set. I can't wait! LOL!

Go for the Performance Friction rotors.
Its not a big deal if Pagid pads won't work . There are plenty of alternative pads which are just as good.

Search on my name and find the brake DIY I started a while ago...

PFCs won't work.

Rick's rotor won't work.

Read my DIY and educate yourself on the 996Turbo brake system... it's nothing like the rest of the 996 family's brake systems.

Yea, each(left and right side), so total would be close to $750 for front set.

Mike,

That was a great thread with TONS of info! So in conclusion, if I wanted to get replacement slotted rotors for a TT, I would have to go custom???

Unfortunately, Yes. I had to learn this last year when I was doing research on this very issue. If you don't want to go the "custom" route, your best bet is PAGID YELLOW PADS (very rotor friendly) at the track. That said, I'd recommend getting off the whole cross drilled rotor thing for any track duty. The stress of the weight of the car, coupled with the capable velocity of this car causes tremendous issue with the OEM front rotor.

Coleman Racing can hook you up with customs for about $900 initially and then about $370 for every set of outter rotors/hardware from there on. Doesn't matter if they're rigid or floating. You tell them what you want and they'll make it for you.

I'm already using Pagid RS19s and are working really well, just that the front rotors are cracked, hence the reason why I want to change to slotted.

I'll give Coleman Racing a call, see what they can do. Do I have to give them my stock rotors, or can I just tell them the application? Do you know what their turn around time is?

Thanks,
Chasen

Here's what I've done...

Buy another set of OEM rotors to use as spares. Send your "old" rotors that are currently on the car to them, and they'll make what you want to your specs and then get them back to you... About 5 business days.

That said, your "BETTER" bet, since you're upgrading rotors anyway and the cost is the same, would be to upgrade to the BIG BRAKE front GT3 caliper and 997Turbo front rotor, and then get the 350MM rotor with the aluminum hat made off your original rotor.

These cars are so heavy, the larger the heat sync (rotor), the better.

Guys,
I've been speaking with Paul at Protosport and he is very close to releasing a set of TT rotors (350mm) with a caliper relocator bracket for the front (run your stock 4 piston)... He's currently selling many sets of his slotted rotors for GT3's and is just working out the specs on the 997TT and 996TT for both 4 and 6 piston application.

I'll post up in both threads as more details surface. His rotors essentially weigh the same as stock and cost a bit more but have been shown to last about 3X as long as stocks in his other applications. Great track alternative without breaking the bank or doing anything custom (which isn't necessarily a bad route depending on your needs).

Just another option out there to meet our needs!

I'm personally going to go with the GT3 front (996 or 997 6 piston) and then try and source some slotted front rotors and run some Pagids with stainless steel lines and quality fluid (RBF most likely)... I may also try to get a relocator bracket for the rear so I can run 350mm's out back ala Mikelly. Or we can run a 997 GT3 or TT rear 4 piston with the 350mm (so I'm told but haven't confirmed yet)...
