k24/18 or hybrid gt28 ?

guys i need to make a decision asap
which turbo's have a better powerband ?
which are better from 5000-redline ?

assume a 5 bar fpr and a flash ..

what kind of rwhp are we looking at ?

like the fact that the 28s have little lag, but they appear to die out in the higher redline vs a k24/18 which has a bit more lag, but pulls to redline

what do you guys think ?

also, i have UMW software for the car...
can i keep this software if i do k24/18s ?

Steve,

Do the K24/18G's and don't worry about the lag. Depending on the tune and your driving style you may not notice any lag at all. Seriously, people expect to "pull from 1500rpm's" in 6th gear like these cars have 7 Liters, which is !%~$!$! insane.

You'll be very, very happy with the K24/18G's but you will seriously risk damage to your bottom end unless you make SURE to use top quality fuel when the car sees boost. These turbos are ROD-KILLERS unless you're running C16 while @ 1.4-BARS. Stay off of the EBC unless you're running rocket fuel.

You'll get 550-600WHP with no problem but you'll need to dial the torque down in order to save the bottom end of your motor. The K24/18G setup will produce more power, but you'll need rods at that point and of course, more fuel, so you get injectors with this package as a party favor. At some level, like really soon.... you'd want to consider HUGE-IC's if the car sees mostly hot weather while running a ton of boost. The IC's can be upgraded later, but you'll leave a few ponies on the table which would hurt your Mexican vacations a little bit.

What's most important (benefit) with the K14/18G is that you MAINTAIN your torque well into the RPM-Powerband and that's critical to roll-on acceleration. Again, depending on where your driving style fits in, the lag may not be apparent to you at all. In NYC, you might try calling into RPM_North. They are incredible with the details on this setup and of course, EPL is right around the corner from you, so have a blast.

Remember also that when you substantially cross the 600WHP/WTQ number, it's time to really, seriously consider a bottom end on the car. Without substantially more fuel, the K24/18G's will need to run low boost but the potential is there to go for a lot more power in the future.

dreamtripper is infamous around these parts
I've been exploring upgrade options from my K16s and I'm leaning towards a K24 based Turbo. My goal is >500 AWHP. Does it make sense to run 24/18s on low boost or just straight K24s with something like a GIAC flash?

24/18G's on 93 pump with only a tune and 5bar PFR will "safely" give you 500whp.

I've had both...24/18g's all the way. They provide much more power and deliver it in a much more linear way. They don't run out of steam near redline like the gt28's did.

gt28 60-130...8.25

k24/18g 60-130...6.96

Enough said!!

8.25 seems off to me too. I felt like my k16/24's were faster than the gt28's. There was just a time posted from someone with a EVOMS GT610 (which uses gt28's) and it was 8.54 I believe. My 8.25 was with the EVOMS GT640 setup, so if you compare those 2 times it sounds about right. There was also someone with a GT660 (gt28's) which ran 7.84, so I think it all sounds correct.

Talk with Todd at Proto.

To run 580whp safely I would go with upgraded fuel system/EBC/race gas.

Are you talking about straight GT28s? or Hybrids?
